13 April 2010 - Following an order by OAO Admiralty Shipyards, OMZ Foundry is producing a set of castings, with an overall weight of more than 200 tonnes, for a new polar scientific vessel. Castings of stern posts and tail posts have already been made.

BHP Billiton Enters Joint Venture for Indonesian Coal Project

13 April 2010 - BHP Billiton has recently entered into binding agreements to create a new joint venture for its Indonesian Coal Project (ICP) with a subsidiary of PT Adaro Energy TBK, which has agreed to acquire a 25% interest in the ICP joint venture. BHP Billiton holds the remaining 75%.

Ternium to Acquire Controlling Interests in Steel Companies in Colombia and Panama

12 April 2010 - Ternium S.A. has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire a 54% ownership interest in Colombia-based Ferrasa through a capital contribution of US$74.5 million. Ternium also has agreed to purchase a 54% ownership interest in Ferrasa Panamá for US$0.5 million.

Sumitomo Metals to Increase Production Capacity for Steam Generator Tubes

09 April 2010 - Sumitomo Metal Industries has decided to expand the production capacity at its Steel Tube Works in Amagasaki, Hyogo Prefecture for steam generator tubes to be used in pressurized-water reactor nuclear power plants. Increased production is scheduled to start in April 2013.

Siemens Receives New Order for Dry Dedusting System in China

09 April 2010 - A steel producer from Northern China has ordered a dry dedusting system from Siemens VAI Metals Technologies that is to be installed in an LD steel works. The project also includes a gas recovery system that collects and treats the converter gas for subsequent power generation.

Galvanizing Line Commissioned at MMK-Atakas Mill in Turkey

08 April 2010 - MMK recently commissioned a continuous hot-dip galvanizing line at its MMK-Atakas mill in Turkey at Iskenderun. The facility was supplied by Danieli & C. Officine Meccaniche SpA. The designed production capacity of the unit is 450,000 tonnes per annum.

ArcelorMittal Kryviy Rih to Start Construction on First CCM

07 April 2010 - OJSC ArcelorMittal Kryviy Rih plans to begin construction of secondary metallurgy and continuous billet casting technology in April. The continuous casting machine (CCM) is a key part of the company’s modernization program and one of its investment obligations according to the sale and purchase agreement.
