Students and Faculty

The Association for Iron & Steel Technology (AIST) and the AIST Foundation are committed to ensuring that the iron and steel industry of tomorrow will have a sufficient number of qualified professionals.

To sustain this commitment, the AIST Foundation awards money annually in scholarships and grants, developing programs that seek to broaden the number of students and faculty in the iron and steel industry.

Students

AIST paves the way for you to translate your classroom learning into real-world experience. Through your Material Advantage membership, you’re given the opportunity to:

  • Learn from the experts: receive free registration and travel reimbursement to attend AIST’s Technology Training Conferences.

  • Network with professionals: attend an AIST Member Chapter meeting with your student peers and professors for free.

  • Get industry exposure: Collect travel reimbursement for touring a local steel plant to see the steelmaking process up close.

  • Win money: participate in annual student contests for a chance to take home big prizes.

  • Earn dinner on us: redeem funding for snacks and refreshments at eligible student meetings on campus.

  • Receive scholarships and industry experience: apply to earn a paid summer internship or co-op at a North American steel company followed by a US$7,500 scholarship.

  • Connect with mentors: get paired with steel professionals to engage in conversations regarding career guidance and resume coaching.

Build a foundation for a successful iron and steel career and kick-start your professional development before graduation. Start exploring the opportunities and take advantage of these benefits today!
