Galvanizing Line Commissioned at MMK-Atakas Mill in Turkey
04/08/2010 - MMK recently commissioned a continuous hot-dip galvanizing line at its MMK-Atakas mill in Turkey at Iskenderun. The facility was supplied by Danieli & C. Officine Meccaniche SpA. The designed production capacity of the unit is 450,000 tonnes per annum.

Galvanized steel from the unit will be sold and also used for further processing at the color-coating line, which was put into operation January 15, 2010, and has production capacity of 200,000 tonnes.
MMK says that construction and facilities installation at MMK-Atakas is advancing on schedule. The designed capacity at MMK-Atakas is 2.3 million tonnes per annum, which are to be supplied to the domestic market of Turkey as well as exported.
The MMK-Atakas project was started in October 2007, and full-cycle production is expected to be launched by the end of December 2010.
MMK Atakas is a Turkish company jointly owned by OJSC MMK and Atakaş Group. It was established in 2007 for engineering, constructing, and operating an integrated flat steel-making complex with annual production capacity of 2.3 mm tonnes of finished flat steel products located at two sites in Iskenderun and Kocaeli (Gebze).
OJSC MMK is among the world's largest steel producers and is one of the leaders of Russia's steel industry. The company's operations in Russia include a large steel-producing complex encompassing the entire production chain, from preparation of iron ore to downstream processing of rolled steel. In 2009, the company produced 9.6 million tonnes of crude steel and 8.8 million tonnes of commercial products. MMK Group revenue in 2009 was USD 5.081 billion.
