President of India Presents SCOPE Meritorious Awards to SAIL
04/14/2010 - President of India Her Excellency Smt. Pratibha Devisingh Patil recently presented two Meritorious Awards in Specialized Fields, instituted by the Standing Conference of Public Enterprises (SCOPE) to Steel Authority of India Ltd. (SAIL).
President of India Her Excellency Smt. Pratibha Devisingh Patil recently presented two Meritorious Awards in Specialized Fields, instituted by the Standing Conference of Public Enterprises (SCOPE) to Steel Authority of India Ltd. (SAIL). The awards were received by SAIL Chairman S.K. Roongta.
The two awards recognize SAIL’s initiatives in the areas of Corporate Social Responsibility & Responsiveness (2008-09) and in Research & Development, Technology Development & Innovation (2007-08).
The SCOPE Meritorious Award for Corporate Social Responsibility & Responsiveness was conferred on SAIL for the fulfillment of stringent criteria on CSR policies, products and services, initiatives to improve the quality of work life, environment, safety/security, and well-being of employees and other stakeholders. The company’s efforts in the fields of healthcare, education, literacy promotion, improving local infrastructure, rural/community development, economic empowerment of women, income-generating programs, and child welfare have been recognized through this award.
The company’s R&D Center for Iron & Steel (RDCIS) in Ranchi is said to be India’s premier research organization in the field of ferrous metallurgy. More than 250 research engineers at RDCIS undertake research projects from raw materials to finished steel products at steel plants/units of SAIL. RDCIS also offers technological services to various public and private sector organizations in India and abroad.
