Ruukki to Launch Optim 700 MC Plus High-Strength Steel

Ruukki will launch Optim 700 MC Plus, a new high-strength structural steel with improved cold-forming properties, this spring during the Bauma 2010 trade fair in Munich.

In addition to superior cold-forming properties, the new grade’s impact strength exceeds standard requirements as well as the impact strength of other steels on the market. The steel has good impact strength, excellent engineering usability and can be more easily joined than earlier by welding.

According to Ruukki, the improved properties will help in a wide range of applications such as the manufacture of crane booms, where better design structures mean better performance, and truck bodies and mobile machines, which can benefit from superior bending properties. Other applications that could benefit from the use of Optim 700 MC Plus steel include the manufacture of goods handling equipment as well as earthmoving, mining and waste-handling equipment.

Optim 700 MC Plus steel can also help to improve production efficiency and boost the performance of end-products.

"Optim 700 MC Plus represents a new era in the properties of high-strength steels and offers equipment designers a chance to develop new equipment capable of delivering better performance than ever," said Kari Lehtinen, Senior Vice President, Ruukki Metals.

“Particular attention was given to engineering usability when developing the steel,” added Kari Lehtinen. “This means Optim 700 MC Plus can be used safely and without problem to manufacture various equipment that functions perfectly in even the most demanding user environments, such as at low operating temperatures.”
