SAIL Signs JV Agreement for Wagon Components Facility in West Bengal

29 May 2012 - Maharatna Steel Authority of India Ltd. (SAIL) signed a joint venture agreement with Burn Standard Co. Ltd. (BSCL) at Kolkata for setting up a Wagon Components Manufacturing Facility at the premises of BSCL at Jellingham, Purba Medinipore district, in West Bengal, with a capacity to produce 10,000 bogies and 10,000 couplers per annum.

Siemens to Modernize Drive Technology for Aluminium Norf Hot Mill

28 May 2012 - Siemens Metals Technologies will work with Aluminium Norf GmbH (Alunorf), located in Neuss, Germany, to modernize the drive technology in hot rolling mill no. 2. The conversion work is scheduled to start this year and finish in December 2017.

ThyssenKrupp Steel Europe Improves Environmental Performance with Dortmund CAL Upgrade

28 May 2012 - ThyssenKrupp Steel Europe AG has modernized the continuous annealing line at its Dortmund site. The new burner technology was developed specifically for use in the Dortmund CAL, and the investment of around 30 million euros will help reduce by half the nitrogen oxide emissions from the line.

24 May 2012 - BHP Billiton announced a 90-day suspension of operations at its TEMCO1 manganese alloy facility in Tasmania, Australia, on February 23, 2012, to review the economic viability of continuing operations. With that review now complete, BHP Billiton has decided to restart Temco operations, with planning for a full restart commencing immediately.

Siemens Installs Heat Recovery Pilot Plant at Stahlwerk Thüringen

23 May 2012 - A heat recovery pilot plant installed by Siemens Metals Technologies in the electric steel plant of Stahlwerk Thüringen GmbH in Unterwellenborn, Germany, is now in operation since April 2012. The plant uses molten salt as the heat transfer medium and is connected to the existing exhaust gas system of the EAF.

JSW Steel Reports Growth in April Crude Steel Production

23 May 2012 - JSW Steel Ltd. reported monthly crude steel production of 715,000 tonnes for April 2012, a 35% increase compared to the corresponding month in the last fiscal year and 10% sequentially.
