ArcelorMittal Accepts PEAMCoal Offer

26 October 2011 - ArcelorMittal provided notice to Peabody Energy that following its acceptance of PEAMCoal Pty Ltd.’s offer for Macarthur Coal Ltd., it has terminated the Co-Operation and Contribution Agreement between the two companies. ArcelorMittal will remain a shareholder in PEAMCoal until the termination arrangements are completed in approximately 90 days.

Preliminary Steel Imports Decline 9% in September

26 October 2011 - The U.S. imported a total of 2,238,000 net tons of steel in September, down 9% from August final data according to the latest report from AISI. Finished steel imports were also down 9% through the same period.

U. S. Steel Reports 2011 3rd Quarter Results

26 October 2011 - United States Steel Corp. reported third quarter 2011 net income of $22 million, or $0.15 per diluted share, compared to a second quarter 2011 net income of $222 million, or $1.33 per diluted share, and a Q3 2010 net loss of $51 million, or $0.35 per diluted share.

AK Steel Reports Third Quarter 2011 Results

26 October 2011 - AK Steel reported a net loss of $3.5 million on net sales of $1,585.8 million for the third quarter and net income of $38.3 million on net sales of $4859.8 million for the first nine months of 2011.

Peabody and ArcelorMittal Obtain Majority Interest in Macarthur Coal

25 October 2011 - Peabody Energy and ArcelorMittal have obtained majority control of Macarthur Coal Ltd. following acceptances under PEAMCoal Pty Ltd.’s takeover bid in respect of more than 50.01% of the Macarthur shares. PEAMCoal will proceed to appoint representatives to the Macarthur Board.

ArcelorMittal Ostrava Completes Installation of Deduster System

25 October 2011 - ArcelorMittal Ostrava has completed the installation of a new deduster system at its sinter plant three months before the scheduled date. The investment will cut dust emissions from the Sinter Plant North to less than 20 mg/m3 (from the present 50 mg/m3).

Stainless Imports up 39% through YTD July 2011

25 October 2011 - Total stainless imports reached 488,826 tons through YTD July 2011, a 38.6% increase compared to YTD July 2010 according to the latest report from SSINA. Total specialty steel imports (comprising stainless steel, alloy tool steel and electrical steel) reached 615,409 tons through the same period, a 37.2% increase.

September World Crude Steel Production Dips Slightly vs. August

24 October 2011 - World crude steel production for the 64 countries reporting to the World Steel Association stood at an estimated 123.57 million tonnes for September 2011, 0.8% lower than the 124.59 million tonnes reported for the previous month (August 2011) and 9.7% higher in comparison with September 2010.
