14 October 2010 - Maanshan Iron & Steel Co., Ltd., located in Maanshan, China, has awarded SMS Mevac a contract for the supply of a duplex RH plant with burner lance system. Commissioning of the duplex RH plant is scheduled for the second half of 2011.

Tenova Commissions Consteel Plant at Tokyo Steel

14 October 2010 - Tenova has successfully commissioned a new Consteel® plant in Japan, following the recent Consteel start-ups in Korea, China, and Vietnam. Tokyo Steel has equipped its new steel plant in Tahara with the 360-tonnes of steel per hour Consteel system.

Outokumpu Launches New Duplex Steel Grade

14 October 2010 - Outokumpu has launched a new duplex stainless steel grade that it claims features a higher mechanical strength than major duplex grades on the market. The new grade, Outokumpu LDX 2404®, is said to enable thinner gauges to be employed in a variety of applications.

JSW Reports 8% Growth in Crude Steel Production in First Half of FY11

13 October 2010 - JSW Steel Limited reported the production of 3.14 million tonnes of crude steel in the first half of fiscal year 2011, representing a growth of 8% compared to comparable year-ago period. Flat rolled and long products production grew by 32% and 44%, respectively, over the same period.

SMS Meer to Supply ArcelorMittal Hochfeld with Wire Rod Mill

13 October 2010 - An order placed with SMS Meer two years ago by ArcelorMittal Hochfeld GmbH for the supply of a complete high-capacity wire rod mill has been reinstated. The mill is expected to commence production in spring 2012.

SSAB Opens New R&D Facility in Iowa

13 October 2010 - SSAB has opened its new Research and Development Facility located adjacent to the SSAB steel mill in Montpelier, Iowa. The 25,000-sq. ft. facility houses cutting-edge testing, simulation, and metallographic equipment, with a staff of 13 research engineers and technicians.
