Tenova Commissions Consteel Plant at Tokyo Steel

Tenova has successfully commissioned a new Consteel® plant in Japan, following the recent Consteel start-ups in Korea, China, and Vietnam.

Tokyo Steel has equipped its new steel plant in Tahara (Japan), which is going to produce 2.5 million tonnes per year of quality steel, with the 360-tonnes of steel per hour Consteel system. Tenova notes that this is the highest installed capacity Consteel in the world.

The new system has been coupled with an electric arc furnace of 300 tonnes nominal tapping capacity and 420 tonnes total capacity.

Due to the continuous scrap feeding and preheating Consteel technology, Tokyo Steel will be able to produce high-quality flat steel with low electric consumption and achieve environmental advantages compared to a traditional top-charge furnace, according to Tenova.

Tenova designs and supplies advanced technologies, products, and services for the metals and mining industries. The company operates close to its customers through a network of 33 companies based on five continents.
