Outokumpu Launches New Duplex Steel Grade

Outokumpu has launched a new duplex stainless steel grade that it claims features a higher mechanical strength than major duplex grades on the market. The new grade, Outokumpu LDX 2404®, is said to enable thinner gauges to be employed in a variety of applications.

The new grade is suitable for all uses of stainless steel where high mechanical properties and good corrosion resistance can be utilized—in storage tanks, road and rail tankers, building and construction, as well as in several industrial processes.

At the core of Outokumpu's strategy is increasing sales of special grades and products, noting that special grades offer high growth potential and provide significant value for customers. The company claims to be the market leader in duplex grades with a global market share of about 50%.

"I'm very pleased that we now have a full palette of duplex stainless steels to offer. This enables us to make tailor-made duplex solutions to fulfill our customer needs with the most optimal products," said Jan Engfeldt, Commercial Manager in Outokumpu.

Outokumpu is a global leader in stainless steel, with customers in a range of industries worldwide. The company employs about 8000 people in more than 30 countries. The Group’s head office is located in Espoo, Finland.
