Tata Steel Reports 2nd Quarter Performance for FY11

Tata Steel reported the production of 1.610 million tonnes of saleable steel in the second quarter, and the production of 3.201 million tonnes of saleable steel in the first half of fiscal year 2011 (FY’11). The production total represent a 6% increase over 1.519 million tonnes of saleable steel produced in the second quarter of FY’10, and a 5% increase over 3.061 million tonnes of saleable steel in the first half of FY’10.
 
The company reached a sales volume of 1.660 million tonnes for the second quarter, a 14% increase over 1.457 million tonnes in the second quarter of FY’10. Sales of 3.060 million tonnes for the second half of FY’11 represents a 6% increase over sales of 2.875 million tonnes in the first half of FY’10.
 
The company also achieved its highest-ever long products sales of 774,000 tonnes in the second quarter, vs. the previous best of 753,000 tonnes in Q4 FY’10
 
A number of the company’s units also achieved new production records, including highest-ever hot metal production of 1.899 million tonnes in the second quarter, vs. the previous best of 1.888 million tonnes in Q3 FY’10, and highest- ever crude steel production of 1.726 million tonnes in the second quarter, vs. the previous best of 1.724 million tonnes in Q3 FY’10.
 
The company’s G blast furnace achieved its highest ever quarterly production of 557,000 tonnes vs. the previous best of 545,000 tonnes in the previous quarter (Q1 FY’11). LD #1 also achieved its highest-ever quarterly production in the second quarter, 774,000 tonnes vs. the previous best of 748,000 tonnes in Q4 FY’10.
 
Additional achievements for the second quarter included being awarded the ‘Rashtriya Khel Protsahan Puruskar’ for the second consecutive year, and being conferred the CSR Excellence Award 2010 by ASSOCHAM.
