Worldsteel Honors Lakshmi Mittal

The World Steel Association (worldsteel) honored ArcelorMittal Chairman and CEO Lakshmi Mittal with the presentation of the Association’s Medal during the group’s annual meeting in Tokyo. The medal was presented by Paolo Rocca, Chairman worldsteel and Chairman and CEO Techint Group.

The worldsteel Medal is awarded to retiring Chairmen as they step down from being an officer of the Executive Committee (Chairman, Vice-Chairman or Treasurer). It is an honor in recognition of distinguished service to the steel industry and worldsteel. Although Lakshmi Mittal is now stepping down following four years as an officer of the Executive Committee, he will continue to serve as a member of the committee.

Lakshmi Mittal was also honored as Industry Communicator of the Year. He was chosen from a distinguished group of final nominations including Hajime Bada, Ian Christmas, Daniel DiMicco, Lakshmi Mittal, Shan Shanghua, and John Surma.

The World Steel Association (worldsteel) is one of the largest and most dynamic industry associations in the world. worldsteel represents approximately 180 steel producers (including 19 of the world's 20 largest steel companies), national and regional steel industry associations, and steel research institutes. worldsteel members produce around 85% of the world's steel.
