Corus Pilot Plant to Test CO2-Reducing Technology

01 December 2009 - Corus will test a new iron-making technology, called “Hisarna,” in a pilot plant project at its IJmuiden steelworks in the Netherlands. The technology reportedly has the potential to reduce CO2 emissions in blast furnace steelmaking by more than 50%.

Nippon Steel Sheet Piles Adopted for Large-Scale Infrastructure Project

New President at Plannja; Other Appointments

30 November 2009 - Per Olof Stark assumes the position of President of Plannja AB beginning January 1, 2010. Stark is currently Head of Marketing at SSAB Plate in Oxelösund. The current President of Plannja, Anders Berg, will become Head of Supply Chain in the APAC business area.

Rio Tinto Enters Two Agreements with IOH

27 November 2009 - Rio Tinto reaches an agreement with Iron Ore Holdings, enabling the sale of ore from IOH's Phil's Creek deposit to Rio Tinto under a mine-gate sale process. Rio Tinto has also entered an exclusive agreement with IOH to examine its Iron Valley deposit.

SMS Siemag Receives Order from China

25 November 2009 - Hunan Xiangtou Goldsky Titanium Metal Co. Ltd. has placed an order with SMS Siemag for the supply of a 20-roll cold rolling mill for quality titanium strip. Annual production of 10,000 tonnes is expected.

Tenova Starts Up Two Consteel Plants in South Korea

24 November 2009 - Two new Consteel plants recently started up by Tenova in South Korea are part of the new 2.5 million tonnes per year capacity Hot Mill complex located in Asan Bay and owned by Dongbu Steel. Each Consteel plant is applied to a new 160-tonne Electric Arc Furnace.

China’s Output Boosts World Crude Steel to 13.1% Increase in October

23 November 2009 - World crude steel production for the 66 countries reporting to the World Steel Association stood at an estimated 112,177 million tonnes in October 2009 — 3.1% higher than the previous month (September 2009) and 13.1% higher than October 2008.

JFE, JSW Agree on Strategic Collaboration

23 November 2009 - JFE Steel Corp. and JSW Steel Ltd. signed an agreement on November 19 to collaborate with each other in India in the area of automotive steel. The companies have also identified several other areas where possible collaboration can be explored in India in the future.

Outokumpu to Supply Stainless Steel to Stockholm Waterfront Project

23 November 2009 - The Stockholm Waterfront project's Congress Centre will incorporate a stainless steel façade, the stainless material supplied by Outokumpu. The material will be its duplex stainless steel with a half-matte surface to provide the desired level of reflectivity.
