SMS Siemag to Supply Henan Zhongfu with Hot Rolling Mill
29 November 2010 - Henan Zhongfu Industrial Co. Ltd., China, has placed an order with SMS Siemag for the erection of a 1+4-CVC® plus hot rolling mill at the Gogyi location. The hot rolling mill is to be integrated into a new works complex in which, primarily, aluminum hot strip will be rolled for beverage can production.
NLMK Recognized for Annual Report
29 November 2010 - NLMK’s 2009 Annual Report has won awards in several national contests held this year. The company won the RA Expert Rating Agency contest for Best Annual Report (Non-Financial Sector) and came first among steelmaking companies in the contest of annual reports and corporate websites organized by Securities Market magazine in cooperation with the MICEX Stock Exchange.
Dillinger Hüttenwerke Casts World’s Thickest Slabs after SMS Siemag Upgrade
29 November 2010 - Dillinger Hüttenwerke re-commissions its Continuous Caster No. 5 following a revamp and 450-mm enlargement in thickness by SMS Siemag. The vertical-type continuous caster, which was originally supplied by SMS Siemag in 1998, now produces the world's thickest slabs, with sizes from 230 to 450 mm gage and 1400 to 2200 mm width.
Siemens Commissions Second Converter and Caster for ThyssenKrupp CSA
29 November 2010 - Siemens VAI Metals Technologies recently started up the LD (BOF) converter and continuous slab caster for the second production line at ThyssenKrupp CSA’s Siderùrgica do Atlântico steel mill in Rio de Janeiro.
Mechel Increases Stake in Charter Capital of Toplofikatsia Rousse
26 November 2010 - Mechel OAO has acquired an additional 51% stake in the charter capital of Toplofikatsia Rousse AD, located in the Republic of Bulgaria. As a result, Mechel has increased its stake in the charter capital of the power station up to 100% from the previous 49%.
Metinvest Produces Rebars with Negative Tolerance
26 November 2010 - Metinvest claims to be the first in Ukraine to produce rebars with negative tolerance according to DSTU 3760-2006 standard. The first lot with enhanced quality rebars from Makeevka Iron and Steel Works (MMZ) was recently delivered to customers.
Evraz Completes Modernization at NTMK
26 November 2010 - Evraz Group completed the modernization of its converter shop at NTMK, Evraz’s steel mill in the Urals, Russia. The converter shop’s annual capacity increased by 0.7 million tonnes to 4.5 million tonnes of steel as a result of the modernization.
MMK and Kamaz Sign Memorandum on Cooperation
24 November 2010 - MMK and Kamaz recently signed a memorandum for construction of a metal service center in Naberezhniye Chelny (Tatarstan). The new facility to be commissioned in 2012 will be owned by MMK and Kamaz on a 50:50 basis.

24 November 2010 - Intercos-IV recently commissioned the first stage of MMK-Intercos service center and stamped components plant in St. Petersburg. Construction of the project’s second stage is expected to start in 2011.

24 November 2010 - Novolipetsk Steel has concluded a €2.3 million contract with Sytco a.g. for the supply of a new roll-grinding machine for special grinding and proper roll surface profiling for its 5 million tonnes-per-annum capacity hot strip mill in Lipetsk.
Severstal to Supply Rolled Metal Products to New Automotive Standards
24 November 2010 - The Cherepovets Integrated Iron and Steel Plant—part of the steel segment of the Severstal Russian Steel Division—will start deliveries of GMW (General Motors Worldwide) standard rolled metal products for General Motors.
TU Freiberg, MgF Inaugurate Magnesium Hot Rolling Mill
23 November 2010 - Technische Universität Bergakademie Freiberg and MgF Magnesium Flachprodukte GmbH inaugurated a new hot rolling mill for magnesium. The mill will be operated by the university’s Institute of Metal Forming, extending a production line for magnesium flat products developed jointly by the university and MgF.
Posco Completes Global R&D Center
23 November 2010 - Posco recently completed its Global R&D Center at the Songdo International City in Incheon. Construction for the R&D center started in June 2008.
Evraz Signs Five-Year Loan Agreement

Usiminas Revises Investment Plan in Brazil
22 November 2010 - Usiminas announced that its Board of Directors recently decided to cancel the project for construction of a new plant in the city of Santana do Paraíso, state of Minas Gerais. The Board also approved the investments of Mineracao Usiminas S.A. in the amount of R$550 million, related to the first stage of the Production Capacity Expansion Plan.
World Crude Steel Production Continues to Climb through October
22 November 2010 - World crude steel production for the 66 countries reporting to the World Steel Association stood at an estimated 117.56 million tonnes in October 2010 — a 5.2% increase from the previous month (September 2010) and a 2.4% increase vs. October 2009.
