Tata Steel Declares Q2, First-Half Results

15 November 2010 - During the first half of the financial year 2010-11 (H1 FY’11) ending September 30, 2010, Tata Steel Group recorded profit after tax of Rs 3,804 crores (US$847 million) compared to a loss of Rs 4,916 crores (US$1.09 billion) in H1 FY’10. The Group’s profit after tax for Q2 FY’11 of  Rs 1,979 crores (US$440 million) was around 8.5% higher than the profit of Rs 1,825 crores (US$406 million) in Q1 FY’11.

Outokumpu Recognized for Corporate Responsibility

12 November 2010 - Outokumpu's corporate responsibility reporting for 2009 was ranked third in the Finnish corporate responsibility reporting review. For the 2007 and 2008 reports, the company's reporting was ranked first.

ArcelorMittal Supports Special Economic Zone in Krakow

12 November 2010 - A letter of intent concerning the evaluation of possibilities for creating a special economic zone in Krakow’s Nowa Huta District was recently signed by the Malopolska Region’s Governor, the Małopolska Agency for Regional Development, and the region’s biggest investor, ArcelorMittal Poland, owner of a part of the land to be dedicated to the creation of the zone.

Praxair India to Supply Tata Steel with Nitrogen

12 November 2010 - Praxair India has been associated with Tata Steel’s Jamshedpur facility since 2005 and has built three air separation units with a total capacity of 2625 tonnes per day that supply gaseous oxygen, nitrogen, and argon. Tata Steel has contracted Praxair India for an additional 600 tonnes per day of high-pressure gaseous nitrogen.

Intensive-Cooling Unit from Siemens at ThyssenKrupp Rolling Mill

12 November 2010 - Siemens VAI Metals Technologies will install a new intensive-cooling unit in the Hot-Strip Mill 2 of ThyssenKrupp Steel AG in Duisburg-Beeckerwerth, Germany. The unit is scheduled to commence operation in December 2010.

Mechel Signs Agreement of Intent with Posco

11 November 2010 - Mechel OAO recently signed an Agreement of Intent with Posco to establish a mutually beneficial long-term strategic partnership between the companies. The companies intend to examine and possibly implement projects in Russia, the Republic of Korea, and third-world countries.

ArcelorMittal Monlevade Orders Two-Strand Wire Rod Mill from SMS Meer

11 November 2010 - ArcelorMittal Monlevade has reinstated an order originally placed with SMS Meer in 2008 for the supply of a single-strand, high-performance wire rod mill with the option of expansion to two strands. The original expansion option for two strands is to be implemented immediately.

Converteam to Provide Engineering for Indian Plate Mill

11 November 2010 - Danieli has awarded Converteam a contract for major electrical engineering products and services for a new steel plate mill in India. The new Rourkela plate rolling facility for Steel Authority of India (SAIL) is expected to be fully operational in less than three years.

08 November 2010 - Posco has signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MoA) with Vale and Dongkuk that establishes the terms for its entry in the Companhia Siderúrgica do Pecém (CSP) project. The next steps will be the negotiation and signing of a Shareholder Agreement, expected for the beginning of next year.

Gerdau Reports 3Q10 Results

Posco Breaks Ground for Indonesian Steel Mill

08 November 2010 - Posco is constructing its first overseas integrated steel mill in Indonesia, recently breaking ground for the mill in the city of Cilegon, located 100 km west of Jakarta. Posco will lay the ground work across 400 ha of land, with joint investment from Krakatau Steel.
