Evraz Begins Construction of Rolling Mills in Southern Russia, Kazakhstan

03 December 2010 - Evraz Group’s Board of Directors has approved investment in new rolling mills in the Rostov Region of Southern Russia and in Kazakhstan. Both mills are expected to be launched in mid-2013.

Bhilai Steel Plant Sets Record for Converter Lining Life

02 December 2010 - Bhilai Steel Plant of Steel Authority of India Ltd. (SAIL) has set a national benchmark with Converter ‘C’ in its Steel Melting Shop-II recording 12,325 heats in lining life before it was taken down for relining. The plant broke its own previous national record for top-blown converters of 11,036 heats achieved by Converter ‘B’.

Huaigang to Modernize Rod and Bar Mill with Kocks Technology

02 December 2010 - Huaigang Special Steel Co. Ltd. placed an order with Friedrich Kocks GmbH & Co KG for the modernization of its existing rod and bar mill. The modernization will implement a Kocks 3-roll Reducing & Sizing Block, which is scheduled to be commissioned in the first half of 2012.

Essar Steel Commissions Blast Furnace, DRI Plant, and Meltshop

02 December 2010 - Essar Steel has commissioned a 1.73 million tonne-per-annum Blast Furnace and a 1.7 million tonne-per-annum mega DRI module, as well as phase 1 (2.5 million tonnes per annum) of the 5 million tonne-per-annum Steel Meltshop, at the Hazira (India) facility.

SAIL, Kobe Steel Sign MoU for Strategic Collaboration

01 December 2010 - Steel Authority of India Limited and Kobe Steel Ltd. have signed a memorandum of understanding for comprehensive strategic collaboration covering technologies, projects, and other areas. The two companies have already begun a feasibility study for a joint venture that utilizes Kobe’s ITmk3 iron-making process.

MMK Reports Record-High Shipment of Tube Sheet in October

01 December 2010 - Magnitogorsk Iron & Steel Works, OJSC (MMK) shipped about 250,000 tonnes of rolled tubular products to domestic pipe producers in October 2010, an increase of 35% from October 2009.

Posco to Build No. 4 Hot-Rolling Mill at Gwangyang

01 December 2010 - Posco recently decided to build the Gwangyang No. 4 hot-rolling mill and a new cold-rolling mill in India to increase its supply of hot-rolled steel coil to cold-rolling steel companies in the country, and to ensure stable material supply for overseas investment companies.

ThyssenKrupp Reports Results for Fiscal 2009/2010

01 December 2010 - ThyssenKrupp Group reported that order intake climbed 15% to €41,250 million compared to €35,970 million in the prior fiscal year. Sales improved by 5% to €42,621 million vs. last year’s €40,563 million. EBITDA increased by €3.0 billion to €3,224 million.

Siemens to Modernize Aluminum Cold Rolling Mill in Bahrain

30 November 2010 - Siemens VAI Metals Technologies has received an order from Gulf Aluminium Rolling Mill Co. B.S.C. in Manama, Bahrain, to equip its aluminum cold rolling mill no. 2 with new automation and drive systems. The mill will be upgraded during a scheduled plant shutdown at the end of February 2011.

30 November 2010 - Chinese steelmaker Shagang Wide Plate Mills Co. Ltd. has selected Siemens VAI Metals Technologies to provide scheduled service support for its 5-m plate mill no. 1 in its Zhangjiagang Works.

Tata Steel Europe Invests in Technology for South Yorkshire Steel

30 November 2010 - Tata Steel Europe (formerly Corus) is investing £6.5 million in new high-tech equipment at its Stocksbridge plant, South Yorkshire, to increase production of aerospace steels. The company will install two vacuum arc remelt furnaces and specialist testing equipment.

Air Liquide to Build Two Air Separation Units for Indian Steel Company

29 November 2010 - Air Liquide has signed a long-term agreement with Rashtriya Ispat Nigam Limited (RINL) to supply oxygen and nitrogen to meet RINL’s expansion from 3 to 6.3 million tonnes per year of steel. Located in Vizag, this new facility of industrial gases will address the south India market.

ArcelorMittal Ostrava Supplies Pig Iron to Vítkovice Evraz Steel

29 November 2010 - ArcelorMittal Ostrava recently supplied more than 3500 tonnes of pig iron to Vítkovice Evraz Steel plant over three days, with deliveries being restarted based on the conclusion of a new agreement. The new contract guarantees deliveries of pig iron from November 2010 until the end of 2011.

SMS Siemag to Supply Henan Zhongfu with Hot Rolling Mill

29 November 2010 - Henan Zhongfu Industrial Co. Ltd., China, has placed an order with SMS Siemag for the erection of a 1+4-CVC® plus hot rolling mill at the Gogyi location. The hot rolling mill is to be integrated into a new works complex in which, primarily, aluminum hot strip will be rolled for beverage can production.

NLMK Recognized for Annual Report

29 November 2010 - NLMK’s 2009 Annual Report has won awards in several national contests held this year. Dillinger Hüttenwerke Casts World’s Thickest Slabs after SMS Siemag Upgrade

29 November 2010 - Dillinger Hüttenwerke re-commissions its Continuous Caster No. 5 following a revamp and 450-mm enlargement in thickness by SMS Siemag. The vertical-type continuous caster, which was originally supplied by SMS Siemag in 1998, now produces the world's thickest slabs, with sizes from 230 to 450 mm gage and 1400 to 2200 mm width.

Metinvest Produces Rebars with Negative Tolerance

26 November 2010 - Metinvest claims to be the first in Ukraine to produce rebars with negative tolerance according to DSTU 3760-2006 standard. The first lot with enhanced quality rebars from Makeevka Iron and Steel Works (MMZ) was recently delivered to customers.
