Essar Steel Enhances Processing Capacity at Pune, Bahadurgarh

The Essar Steel Processing & Distribution Facility at Bahdurgarh (NCR) and Pune recently each added a world-class slitting line for thicker hot rolled steel coils.

The new slitters have the capacity to process 100,000 tonnes of hot rolled coil per annum. They will process coils up to 12 mm thick and 2000 mm wide into strips of desired widths down to 50 mm, which is a benchmark in the country.

The slitter is capable of processing hot rolled steel with tensile strength of 750 MPa and thickness of 12 mm at a speeds of 40 meters per minute, while 1.2 mm thick coils can be processed at as high speed as 120 meters per minute.

The new facilities will expand Essar Steel’s steel processing capacity at each of the centers to 400,000 tonnes per annum. Targeted at meeting the needs of the region’s fast-growing auto and construction sectors, the hot rolled slitter facility will be complimented by narrow cut-to-length lines, which will provide high speed, high quality blanking of hot rolled coils in the customers’ desired sizes.

“The capacity expansion is in line with the emerging customer requirement,” said Mr. Vikram Amin, Executive Director (Sales & Marketing) Essar Steel, speaking on the expansion plans of the Essar Steel Processing & Distribution Facility. “The auto segment is a very important market for us and this new line at our facility will give us a strong competitive advantage over others in the rapidly expanding auto segment of these regions.”
