Abinsk Electric Steel Commissions New SMS Meer Rebar Mill
04/08/2011 - Abinsk Electric Steel Works Ltd., Russia, has successfully commissioned a new SMS Meer rebar rolling mill. That is capable of manufacturing finished products that exceed the corresponding Russian quality standards.
Abinsk Electric Steel Works Ltd., Russia, has successfully commissioned a new SMS Meer rebar rolling mill.
The new facility will enable Abinsk to guarantee better product quality. It features a new inline cooling section for bar tempering that allows the company to manufacture finished products that exceed the corresponding Russian quality standards.
The new facility also sets new standards for productivity. With an annual output of 500,000 tonnes of rebar, it is capable of producing 44 meters of rebar per second, which is 10 % more than with regular systems, thanks to SMS Meer’s HSD® (High Speed Delivery) system.
SMS Meer supplied the complete rolling mill, including all the electrics and automation systems. Its design also allows the future addition of a VCC® (Vertical Compact Coiler) facility for the production of coils.
“The Abinsk mill is a perfect example of integrated solutions,” commented Predrag Kaljevic, Sales & Marketing at SMS Meer. “Jointly with Abinsk we successfully implemented new processes like the rebar quenching of concrete steel at high speeds.”
