Nippon Steel to Construct Hot-dip Galvanizing Plant in Thailand

Nippon Steel Corp. announced plans to establish a new company for the manufacture and sale of hot-dip galvanized and galvannealed steel sheets primarily for automotive use in Thailand.

The new company — Nippon Steel Galvanizing Thailand)Co., Ltd. — is expected to build a hot-dip galvanizing plant in Rayong Province, Thailand. The new plant will be the equivalent of the state-of-the-art equipment now in operation at Nippon Steel’s steelworks in Japan. It will be capable of producing 360,000 tonnes per year.

Construction of the new facility will require a total investment of approximately US$300 million. The new facility is expected to commence production of high-grade and high-quality galvanized and galvannealed steel sheets, including automotive outer-panel and high-strength steel, in 2013.

The Thai steel market is a growing and important market for Nippon Steel, and continued growth is anticipated in the future. Through this new company, Nippon Steel intends to provide steel products to service customer needs, including demand for high-grade automotive steel sheets.
