23 May 2011 - World crude steel production for the 64 countries reporting to the World Steel Association stood at an estimated 127 million tonnes for April 2011, 1.9% lower than the previous month (March 2011) and 5.0% higher in comparison with April 2010.

U.S., Canadian Steel Shipment Growth Rate Slows in April

19 May 2011 - The rate of growth of steel shipments from metals service centers in the United States and Canada slowed during April, according to the latest Metals Activity Report from MSCI. Steel shipments from U.S. and Canadian service centers rose 11.3% and 4.5% during the month, respectively.

Stainless Imports through February More than 50% Higher than YTD 2010

18 May 2011 - Total stainless imports reached 126,885 tons in YTD February 2011, a 51.4% increase compared to YTD February 2010 according to the latest report from SSINA. Total specialty imports (comprising stainless steel, alloy tool steel and electrical steel) over the same period were 166,205 tons, a 56.1% increase.

March Steel Shipments up 14.9% from February

18 May 2011 - U.S. steel mills shipped 8,006,015 net tons for the month of March 2011, a 14.9% increase from the 6,967,481 net tons shipped in the previous month, according to the latest report from AISI.

OSHA Cites Republic for Repeat Exposures to Fall and Energy Control Hazards

17 May 2011 - OSHA has cited Republic Engineered Products Inc. in Lorain for seven willful and three repeat safety violations for failing to protect workers from fall hazards and implement adequate energy source lockout/tagout procedures to prevent injury from hazardous equipment.

USITC to Continue Cases on Galvanized Steel Wire from China, Mexico

17 May 2011 - The United States International Trade Commission has determined that there is a reasonable indication that a U.S. industry is materially injured by reason of imports of galvanized steel wire from China that are allegedly subsidized, and from China and Mexico that are allegedly sold in the U.S. at less than fair value.
