AK Steel Announces Carbon Steel Price Increase
05/24/2011 - AK Steel announced plans to increase current spot market base prices for all carbon flat-rolled steel products.
AK Steel announced plans to increase current spot market base prices for all carbon flat-rolled steel products.
Base prices will increase by $50 per ton for hot rolled and cold rolled carbon steel products, and by $60 per ton for coated carbon steel products. The changes take effect immediately with new orders.
The company said that the price increase is being implemented to recover higher costs for steelmaking inputs, and is supported by a recent increase in the order intake rate for carbon steel products.
AK Steel produces flat-rolled carbon, stainless and electrical steels, primarily for automotive, appliance, construction and electrical power generation and distribution markets. The company employs about 6200 men and women in Middletown, Mansfield, Coshocton and Zanesville, Ohio; Butler, Pa.; Ashland, Ky.; Rockport, Ind.; and its corporate headquarters in West Chester, Ohio.
AK Tube LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of AK Steel, employs about 300 men and women in plants in Walbridge, Ohio, and Columbus, Ind. AK Tube produces carbon and stainless electric resistance welded (ERW) tubular steel products for truck, automotive and other markets.
