February World Crude Steel Production Up 1.9% vs. February 2011
21 March 2012 - World crude steel production for the 59 countries reporting to the World Steel Association stood at 119.2 million tonnes for February 2012, 1.9% higher in comparison with February 2011 and 2.1% higher than the previous month, January 2012.
January ’12 Steel Shipments up Over 5% From December
20 March 2012 - U.S. steel mills shipped 8,497,932 net tons for the month of January 2012, a 5.1% increase from the 8,085,761 net tons shipped in the previous month, December 2011 according to the latest report from AISI.
Service Center Growth Momentum Increases in February
20 March 2012 - February service center shipments of aluminum and steel were up sharply from the same month in 2011 in both the U.S. and Canada, with inventory positions remaining constant in the U.S. and deteriorating only slightly in Canada, according the latest report from MSCI.

Stainless Imports up 18% Through YTD December 2011
15 March 2012 - Imports of total stainless steel in YTD December 2011 totaled 782,838 tons, an 18.1% increase compared to YTD December 2010, according to data from the Specialty Steel Industry of North America. Imports of total specialty steel increased 19.8% in YTD December 2011, to 1,008,750 tons, compared to the same period a year ago.
