13 April 2012 - The U.S. Department of Labor has reached a settlement agreement with Republic Steel Inc. resolving citations issued by the department's Occupational Safety and Health Administration in May 2011 for violations found at the company's facility in Lorain, Ohio.
Siemens Installs Drive System for SSAB’s Montepelier Steckel Mill
13 April 2012 - Siemens recently commissioned a new drive system at the SSAB Americas’ plate and Steckel mill in Montpelier. The order included two Siemens Sinamics SM150 drive systems and synchronous motors to replace the mill’s existing equipment.

ITC to Conduct Sunset Review of Corrosion-Resistant Carbon Steel Products
10 April 2012 - The U.S. International Trade Commission has voted to conduct full five-year (sunset) reviews concerning the countervailing duty order on corrosion-resistant carbon steel flat products from Korea and the antidumping duty orders on such products from Germany and Korea.

06 April 2012 - Schnitzer Steel Industries, Inc. reported diluted earnings per share from continuing operations of $0.35 for its fiscal 2012 second quarter ended February 29, 2012, compared to $0.25 in the first quarter of fiscal 2012.
SunCoke Energy Reports First Quarter Production
06 April 2012 - SunCoke Energy, Inc. reported preliminary first quarter 2012 U.S. coke production of 1,072 thousand tons, an estimated increase of 211,000 tons, or 25%, compared to the same period in 2011. Its total U.S. coke-making capacity utilization was 100% in first quarter 2012 versus 95% a year ago.
Finished Steel Imports up 13% in March
05 April 2012 - The U.S. imported a total of 3,144,000 net tons of steel in March, up 22% from February final data, according to the latest report from AISI. Finished steel imports were up 21% over the same period.
Severstal NA, UAW Reach Tentative Agreement on New Labor Agreement
04 April 2012 - Severstal North America and United Auto Workers (UAW) Local 600 have reached a tentative agreement on a new five-year labor pact. The company expects ratification of the agreement to be completed shortly.
Steel Technologies to Expand Operations in Mexico
04 April 2012 - Steel Technologies LLC has secured land in the municipality of Celaya, Mexico, to construct its recently announced flat-rolled steel processing operation. The new 125,000-square-foot facility will be equipped with two slitting lines as well as space for additional equipment.
Timken Launches New Ultrasonic Inspection Line at Faircrest
03 April 2012 - The Timken Co. has completed its ultrasonic test (UT) inspection line at its Faircrest Steel Plant in Canton, Ohio. This $5 million investment increases Timken’s large-bar finishing capacity and helps ensure large-bar sound-center quality.
JMC Steel Completes Acquisition of Lakeside
02 April 2012 - JMC Steel Group, Inc. and Lakeside Steel Inc. have completed Lakeside's statutory plan of arrangement under the Business Corporations Act (Ontario). The Ontario Superior Court of Justice issued a final order approving the arrangement on March 29, 2012.

Worthington Reports Third Quarter Fiscal 2012 Results
30 March 2012 - Worthington Industries, Inc. reported net sales of $611.3 million and net earnings of $25.9 million, or $0.37 per share, for its fiscal 2012 third quarter ended February 29, 2012. In last year's third quarter, the company reported net sales of $569.4 million and net earnings of $26.3 million, or $0.35 per share.
Commercial Metals Reports Improved Second Quarter Earnings
29 March 2012 - Commercial Metals Co. reported net earnings of $28.9 million, or $0.25 per diluted share, on net sales of $2.0 billion for the second quarter ended February 29, 2012. This earnings performance is a significant improvement over the net loss of $46.2 million, or $0.40 per share, reported in last year's second quarter with sales of $1.8 billion.
