Ryerson Opens Service Center in Tijuana, Mexico

Ryerson Inc. announced the opening of its newest service center in Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico.

Located in El Florido Industrial park, one of the largest industrial parks in the Tijuana business area, the new facility will enable Ryerson to better meet the needs of customers in the Tijuana region as well as the neighboring industrial areas of Mexicali, Ensenada, Tecate and Rosarito.  Tijuana will also service border regions in the United States and provides access to the Port of Ensenada.

The newly constructed center will supply a wide range of products, including bars, tubing, sheets, coils and plates in carbon, aluminum and stainless steel.  Processing capabilities include cut-to-length, laser fabrication and state-of-the-art bar cutting equipment.  The facility will provide 'same-day' delivery and 'same-day will call' service.  Along with the warehouse operations, the 80,500-square-foot service center will also be home to a local sales team.

The Tijuana facility — one of the largest in the Baja California region — is Ryerson's second facility in Mexico.  The company currently operates a 56,000-square-foot facility in Monterrey, Nuevo Leon.  It also services Mexico through operations in the U.S. border towns of McAllen, Texas, and El Paso, Texas.

"The opening of the Tijuana service center represents a continuation of Ryerson's strategy to bring its full service offerings to major markets throughout Mexico," said Phil Wylie, President of Ryerson's Southwest Region. "As Ryerson's U.S. customer base continues to invest in Mexico, we intend to support that growth as well as the growth of Mexican-based manufacturers."

The new Tijuana service center currently employs 17 people.  Ryerson expects to expand employment to approximately 25 people within a year. As sales grow, Ryerson expects to add a second shift and double employment to 50 people within three years.
