Steel Dynamics Provides Third Quarter Earnings Guidance

13 September 2011 - Steel Dynamics is expecting to report third quarter earnings in the range of $0.18 to $0.22 per diluted share, a decrease from the previous quarter due primarily to a substantial drop in anticipated third quarter flat rolled earnings.

USITC to Uphold Antidumping Orders on Seamless Pipe from Japan, Romania

12 September 2011 - Existing antidumping duty orders on imports of carbon and alloy seamless standard, line, and pressure pipe from Japan and Romania following the USITC’s determination that revoking the existing antidumping duties on these products would be likely to lead to continuation or recurrence of material injury within a reasonably foreseeable time.

Stainless Imports up 39% through YTD June 2011

12 September 2011 - Total stainless imports reached 406,269 tons through YTD June 2011, 39.2% increase compared to YTD June 2010 according to the latest report from SSINA. Total specialty steel imports (comprising stainless steel, alloy tool steel and electrical steel) reached 514,354 tons through the same period, a 38.3% increase compared to YTD June 2010.

Steel Import Permits Down 3% in August

08 September 2011 - Steel import permit applications reached 2,446,000 net tons for the month of August, a 3% decrease from the 2,520,000 permit tons recorded in July according to the latest report from AISI.

ITC to Conduct Sunset Review of Coated Steel Sheet from Japan

07 September 2011 - The U.S. International Trade Commission has voted to conduct a full five-year (sunset) review concerning the antidumping duty order on tin- and chromium-coated steel sheet from Japan (Inv. No. 731-TA-860 (Second Review)).

31 August 2011 - The Department of Commerce announced its affirmative preliminary determination in the countervailing duty investigation of imports of galvanized steel wire from P.R. China.

Stainless Imports up 42% through YTD May 2011

29 August 2011 - Total stainless steel imports reached 335,588 tons through YTD May 2011, a 42.4% increase compared to YTD May 2010 according to the latest report from SSINA. Total specialty steel imports reached 427,616 tons through the same period, a 41.8% increase compared to YTD May 2010.

Preliminary Finished Steel Imports Decline 4% in July

25 August 2011 - The U.S. imported a total of 2,584,000 net tons of steel in July, down 5% from June final data, according to the latest report from AISI. Finished steel imports were down 4% over the same period.

World Crude Steel Utilization Dips in July 2011

23 August 2011 - World crude steel production for the 64 countries reporting to the World Steel Association stood at an estimated 127.48 million tonnes for July 2011, 0.2% lower than the previous month (June 2011) and 11.5% higher in comparison with July 2010.

June Steel Shipments up 3.5% From May

18 August 2011 - U.S. steel mills shipped 7,639,108 net tons for the month of June 2011, a 3.5% increase from the previous month’s shipments according to the latest report from AISI.

Growth in Metal Shipments Continues to Slow

17 August 2011 - Service center shipments increased from year-ago levels, but growth rates continue to slow from earlier this year for both steel and aluminum in Canada and for steel in the U.S., according to the latest Metals Activity Report from the Metals Service Center Institute. Aluminum shipments in the U.S. declined slightly from July 2010.

04 August 2011 - Steel import permit applications reached 2,447,000 net tons for the month of July, a 13% decrease from the 2,797,000 permit tons recorded in June according to the latest report from AISI.

Preliminary Finished Steel Imports Increase 5% in June

29 July 2011 - The U.S. imported 2,110,000 net tons of finished steel in June, up 5% from May final data according to the latest report from AISI.

21 July 2011 - World crude steel production for the 64 countries reporting to the World Steel Association stood at an estimated 127.75 million tonnes for June 2011, 1.6% lower than the previous month (May 2011) and 8.0% higher in comparison with June 2010.

ITC Reports Mixed Findings on Stainless Plate from Five Countries

21 July 2011 - The U.S. International Trade Commission determined that revoking the existing CVD order on stainless steel plate from South Africa and the existing AD orders on stainless plate from Belgium, Korea, South Africa, and Taiwan would likely lead to material injury. It also determined that revoking the existing AD order on stainless plate from Italy would not be likely to lead to material injury.

Growth in Metals Shipments Slows in June

19 July 2011 - U.S. and Canadian metals service center shipments of both steel and aluminum increased in June from 2010 levels according to the latest Metals Activity Report from MSCI, although the rate of growth slowed significantly.

May Steel Shipments up 1.7% from April

19 July 2011 - U.S. steel mills shipped 7,380,064 net tons for the month of May 2011, a 1.7% increase from the 7,258,534 net tons shipped in the previous month according to the latest report from AISI.
