Nucor Executive Vice President to Retire

12 April 2013 - Nucor Corporation announced that its executive vice president of fabricated construction products, Hamilton Lott, Jr., plans to retire on 3 June 2013 after more than 37 years of service with the company.  Raymond S. Napolitan, Jr., will take over his position.

11 April 2013 - The World Steel Association (worldsteel) released its Short Range Outlook (SRO) for 2013 and 2014, forecasting that global apparent steel use will increase by 2.9% to 1,454 million tonnes in 2013, following growth of 1.2% in 2012.

AIIS Says U.S. Port System Needs Dredging and Maintenance

10 April 2013 - The American Institute for International Steel (AIIS) is urging Congress to action on a pressing need to pass the Water Resources Development Act, with a particular focus on the provision that would require the full expenditure of funds collected under the Harbor Maintenance Fee (HMF) for the purpose for which it has always been intended — dredging and maintenance of the country's blue and brown water ports.

SEAISI: Apparent Steel Consumption in ASEAN Region Rose 7.6% in 2012

09 April 2013 - According to the South East Asia Iron & Steel Institute (SEASI), apparent steel consumption in the ASEAN region (Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, Brunei, Burma, Cambodia, Laos and Vietnam) is estimated to have surged by 7.6% y-o-y to 56.4 million tonnes in 2012.
