Canadian Import Duties on Hot Rolled Plate to Remain in Place
01/08/2014 - Imports of hot rolled carbon steel plate and high-strength low-alloy steel plate from three specific countries will continue to be subject to antidumping duties as a result of a decision by the Canadian International Trade Tribunal.
The Canadian International Trade Tribunal issued an order following the expiry review of its order made on 8 January 2009 concerning the dumping of hot rolled carbon steel plate and high-strength low-alloy steel plate from the Republic of Bulgaria, the Czech Republic and Romania.
The Tribunal found that the dumping of hot rolled carbon steel plate and high-strength low-alloy steel plate from Bulgaria, the Czech Republic and Romania was likely to result in injury. The Canada Border Services Agency will therefore continue to impose antidumping duties on these products.
The Canadian International Trade Tribunal is an independent quasi-judicial body that reports to Parliament through the Minister of Finance. It hears cases on dumped and subsidized imports, safeguard complaints, complaints about federal government procurement and appeals of customs and excise tax rulings. When requested by the federal government, the Tribunal also provides advice on other economic, trade and tariff matters.
