Keynote Presentation — April 2024
2023–2024 AIST president Barry T. Schneider, president and chief operating officer, Steel Dynamics Inc., provided a keynote presentation to the 128 attendees at the Pittsburgh Member Chapter meeting on Monday, 8 April 2024, at the Wyndham Grand Pittsburgh Downtown in Pittsburgh, Pa., USA.

Young Steel Professionals’ Night — March 2024
The Pittsburgh Member Chapter hosted their annual Young Steel Professionals’ Night at the Wyndham Grand Downtown Pittsburgh on Monday, 11 March 2024, with 102 attendees, including a terrific turnout of Young Professionals and students, in the audience.
The chapter’s Young Professional chair Courtney Slavic, environmental manager, NLMK Pennsylvania/Sharon Coating, organized and moderated the evening’s program, which included six presentations from local rising stars in the industry. Presenters included: Daniel Allen, quality engineer, United States Steel Corporation; Eric Howell, reliability engineer, Metallus Inc.; Trent Pelligreno, operations senior analyst; TenarisKoppel; Jacob Sarachine, mechanical engineer, Berry Metal Co.; Casey Spiker, assistant project manager, Civil & Environmental Consultants; and Kelly Stewart, plant metallurgist, Steel Dynamics Inc. – The Techs Division.

Holiday Party — December 2023
The Pittsburgh Member Chapter hosted its annual holiday party at Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens in Pittsburgh, Pa., USA, on Wednesday, 6 December 2023. The weather cooperated and the 121 members, AIST staff and guests enjoyed the evening of fellowship and exploring the venue’s indoor and outdoor holiday displays.

Dinner Meeting — November 2023
On Monday, 13 November 2023, the Pittsburgh Member Chapter hosted a joint dinner meeting with the Association of Women in the Metal Industries (AWMI) at the Wyndham Grand Pittsburgh Downtown in Pittsburgh, Pa., USA. Keynote speaker Va-lerie J. Karplus, professor, Department of Engineering and Public Policy, Carnegie Mellon University, presented “Crossing the Hot Metal Bridge: Climate-Inspired Innovation in Iron and Steelmaking” to the 89 attendees.

Keynote Presentation — October 2023
TimkenSteel Corp.’s president and chief executive officer Michael S. Williams gave a keynote presentation at the Pittsburgh Member Chapter on Monday, 9 October 2023, at the DoubleTree by Hilton Hotel Pittsburgh – Cranberry in Cranberry Twp., Pa., USA. Williams provided an overview of TimkenSteel today, its recent transformation, and strategic direction to drive growth, sustain profitability and achieve environmental goals. He reinforced TimkenSteel’s long-standing commitment to operating safely and responsibly and serving diverse end-market sectors to the audience of 117.

Annual Golf Outing — September 2023
On Monday, 18 September 2023, the Pittsburgh Member Chapter’s annual golf outing was held at the Treesdale Golf & Country Club in Gibsonia, Pa., USA. It was a great day on the course for the 116 golfers in the scramble. Proceeds from the golf outing benefited the chapter’s scholarship fund.

senior vice president and chief financial officer, United States Steel Corporation, provided a keynote presentation to the 90 attendees at the Pittsburgh Member Chapter’s dinner meeting on Tuesday, 11 April 2023, at the Wyndham Grand Pittsburgh Downtown in Pittsburgh, Pa., USA.
Also during the meeting, the chapter presented Bill Schlichting, United States Steel Corporation, with an AIST Member Chapter Outstanding Service Award in recognition of his service and leadership as Pittsburgh Member Chapter past chair and representative on the AIST Board of Directors.

Keynote Presentation — March 2023
AIST 2022–2023 president Keith J. Howell, chief operating officer, ArcelorMittal North America, visited and gave a keynote presentation at the Pittsburgh Member Chapter on Monday, 6 March 2023. Howell provided an update on ArcelorMittal North America to the audience of 108 at the Wyndham Grand Downtown Pittsburgh in Pittsburgh, Pa., USA.

Young Steel Professionals’ Night — February 2023
The Pittsburgh Member Chapter hosted their annual Young Steel Professionals’ Night at the Wyndham Grand Down-town Pittsburgh on Monday, 6 February 2023, with 144 attendees, including a terrific turnout of young professionals and students, in the audience.
Pittsburgh Member Chapter Young Professional chair Nicole Altman, Hatch, organized and moderated the evening’s program, which included five presentations from young professionals highlighting their work and how they came to work in the industry. Presenters included: Mark Carlisle, manager, industry marketing, United States Steel Corporation; Mark Kosky, civil engineer, Hatch; Ashley Petrouski, data scientist, United States Steel Corporation; Courtney Slavic, environmental manager, NLMK Pennsylvania; and Rebecca Voss, student, University of Pittsburgh, and intern (summer 2022), Steel Dynamics Inc.

Holiday Party — December 2022
The Pittsburgh Member Chapter hosted their annual holiday party at Phipps Conservatory and Botanical Gardens in Pittsburgh, Pa., USA, on Wednesday, 7 December. The event drew 115 members, AIST staff and guests, who enjoyed the evening of fellowship and exploring the venue’s holiday displays.

Dinner Meeting — November 2022
On Wednesday, 9 November 2022, the Pittsburgh Member Chapter hosted a joint dinner meeting with the Association of Women in the Metal Industries (AWMI) at the Wyndham Grand Pittsburgh Downtown in Pittsburgh, Pa., USA with 193 people in attendance.
Keynote speaker Traci L. Forrester, executive vice president, Environmental & Sustainability, Cleveland-Cliffs Inc., presented “On the Path to Decarbonization.”
Forrester, who leads Cleveland-Cliffs’ Environmental and Sustainability functions, shared the company’s sustainability business model. She spoke on the transformation of Cleveland-Cliffs from the largest and oldest independent iron ore mining company in the U.S., to the largest flat-roll steel company in North America, as well as Cliffs’ entry into the prime scrap recycling business and its closed-loop steel recycling initiatives with its flat-rolled automotive and other customers since 2020. She also shared her personal journey at Cleveland-Cliffs and how the evolution of the company has opened up new opportunities for her personally.

Golf Outing — September 2022
On Monday, 19 September 2022, the Pittsburgh Member Chapter’s annual golf outing was held at the Treesdale Golf & Country Club in Gibsonia, Pa., USA. The rain ended just at tee time for the 136 golfers at this year’s event. The winning foursome of the Urso team from Tamini Transformers. Proceeds from the golf outing benefited the chapter’s scholarship fund.

Young Engineers’ Night — March 2022
The Pittsburgh Member Chapter hosted a Young Engineers’ Night at the Wyndham Grand Downtown Pittsburgh on Monday, 7 March 2022. There were 88 members and guests in attendance. Five young engineers presented on their recent projects and how they chose careers in the steel industry: Hardik Chinoy, data engineer, SMS Digital; Rob Decker, associate mechanical maintenance engineer, Cleveland-Cliffs Butler Works; Brad Good, engineering manager,
Chiz Bros.; Jim Hughes, process engineer blast furnace, U. S. Steel – Mon Valley Works; and Owen Norley, process engineer, Hatch Associates Consultants Inc. Nicole Sitler, process/project engineer, Hatch Associates Consultants Inc., served as the evening’s moderator.

On Thursday, 9 December 2021, the Pittsburgh Member Chapter hosted their annual holiday social at Hofbräuhaus Pittsburgh on Pittsburgh’s South Side. A total of 64 members, AIST staff and guests gathered to celebrate the season. 

Dinner Meeting — November 2021
On Tuesday, 9 November 2021, the Pittsburgh Member Chapter hosted a dinner meeting at the Wyndham Grand Pittsburgh Downtown in Pittsburgh, Pa., USA. Keynote speaker Barry T. Schneider, senior vice president, Flat Roll Steel Group, Steel Dynamics Inc. (SDI), provided the audience of 130 attendees an update on the SDI Sinton plant.

The Pittsburgh Member Chapter hosted a dinner meeting at the Omni William Penn Hotel in Pittsburgh, Pa., USA, on Monday, 11 October 2021.
Keynote speaker John Brandon, manager, technical business development, Nucor Corp., provided the audience of 177 attendees with an overview of Nucor’s new Brandenburg mill.

Dinner Meeting — February 2020
The AIST Pittsburgh Member Chapter hosted its largest dinner meeting in recent years at the Omni William Penn Hotel, Pittsburgh, Pa., USA, on Monday, 10 February 2020 with 280 attendees in the audience.  Keynote speaker Glenn Pushis, senior vice president, special projects, Steel Dynamics Inc. (SDI), discussed SDI’s latest capital project, a US$1.9 billion greenfield flat roll mill in Sinton, Texas, USA.

Dinner Meeting — November 2019
The Chapter held a joint dinner meeting with the Association of Women in the Metal Industries (AWMI) Pittsburgh Chapter on Monday, 11 November 2019, at the Sheraton Hotel Station Square, Pittsburgh, Pa., USA. Sandra DeVincent Wolf, director of research partnerships, College of Engineering, and executive director, Next Manufacturing Center & Manufacturing Futures Initiative, Carnegie Mellon University, presented “Building an Innovation Ecosystem for Advanced Manufacturing” to the 120 attendees in the audience.

Dinner Meeting–October 2019
The Pittsburgh Member Chapter hosted a dinner meeting on Monday, 7 October 2019, at the Sheraton Pittsburgh Hotel at Station Square, Pittsburgh, Pa., USA. “The Power of Perseverance” was presented by Pittsburgh Penguins radio network color analyst and Stanley Cup champion Phil Bourque, “the ol’ two-niner,” to the 93 attendees.

Dinner Meeting — April 2019
2018–2019 AIST president James F. Dudek, vice president — Asset Revitalization and Manufacturing Excellence, United States Steel Corporation, was the keynote speaker at the Pittsburgh Member Chapter meeting on Monday, 8 April 2019. The 175 members, students and guests enjoyed his presentation, “The State of the Industry and U. S. Steel’s Asset Revitalization Program,” at the Omni William Penn Hotel in Pittsburgh, Pa., USA. The Chapter meeting was Dudek’s sixth during his tenure as president.

Young Engineers' Night — March 2019
The AIST Pittsburgh Member Chapter held its annual Young Engineers’ Night on Monday, 12 March 2019, at the Embassy Suites by Hilton Pittsburgh Downtown, Pittsburgh, Pa., USA. Dinner Meeting — October 2018
The AIST Pittsburgh Member Chapter hosted a dinner meeting on Monday, 8 October 2018, at the Sheraton Pittsburgh Hotel at Station Square, Pittsburgh, Pa., USA. Keynote speaker Michael A. Kercsmar, vice president Specialty Steel, AK Steel, presented, “Preventing Serious Injuries and Fatalities” to the 122 attendees.
Kercsmar, also a member of the AIST Foundation Board of Trustees, recognized Gina McKinney, a senior majoring in safety management at Slippery Rock University. Golf Outing — June 2018
On Monday, 25 June 2018, the Pittsburgh Member Chapter’s annual golf outing was held at the Treesdale Golf & Country Club in Gibsonia, Pa., USA. The weather cooperated with sunshine and blue skies. This year’s event hosted 96 golfers in the scramble. All proceeds from the golf outing benefited the chapter’s scholarship fund.

Dinner Meeting — April 2018
The AIST Pittsburgh Member Chapter’s dinner meeting in April featured a keynote presentation from Randy Skagen, vice president and general manager, Nucor Steel Tuscaloosa Inc., and 2017–2018 AIST president. The audience of 134 professionals and students enjoyed Skagen’s presentation, “Nucor: Making Steel Great Again,” on Monday, 9 April 2018, at the Sheraton Pittsburgh Hotel at Station Square, Pittsburgh, Pa., USA.
During the dinner, the T.C. Graham prize was presented to Prof. Chunlei Guo, professor at The Institute of Optics, University of Rochester, by Skagen and AIST executive director Ron Ashburn. More information about this year’s T.C. Graham Prize recipient can be found on pages 100–109 of this issue.

Dinner Meeting — February 2018
The AIST Pittsburgh Member Chapter held a dinner meeting on Monday, 12 February 2018, at the Sheraton Pittsburgh Hotel at Station Square, Pittsburgh, Pa., USA. A group of 196 attendees enjoyed the presentation, “It’s a Great Time To Be in the Steel Industry,” by Mark Bula, chief commercial officer of Big River Steel. The chapter also welcomed back chair Steve Asseff, following his year-long deployment in Afghanistan.

Holiday Social — December 2017
On Friday, 15 December 2017, the Pittsburgh Member Chapter of AIST hosted their annual holiday social at Hofbräuhaus Pittsburgh on Pittsburgh’s South Side. More than 67 members and guests gathered to celebrate the season.

On 26 June 2017, the Pittsburgh Member Chapter’s annual golf outing was held at the Treesdale Golf & Country Club in Gibsonia, Pa., USA, under sunny skies. This year’s event hosted 104 golfers in the scramble. More than 110 individuals attended the dinner, which included the golfers and additional members of the chapter.

Dinner Meeting — April 2017
At the Pittsburgh Member Chapter dinner meeting on Monday, 10 April 2017, Wendell Carter, vice president and general manager ArcelorMittal Indiana Harbor, gave his eighth and last keynote presentation to a Member Chapter as AIST 2016–2017 president at the Sheraton Pittsburgh Hotel at Station Square, Pittsburgh, Pa., USA. The chapter also honored AIST’s Gerry Kane, to recognize her long-standing support of the chapter and to celebrate her retirement after 47 years with AIST.

The Pittsburgh Member Chapter held its annual Young Engineers Night on Monday, 13 March 2017, at the Sheraton Hotel at Station Square, Pittsburgh, Pa., USA. The evening was moderated by chapter vice chair Bill Schlichting, SKW North America, and chapter past chair, Lauren Keating, Songer Steel Services. Presenters included David Sapiro, Ph.D. candidate in materials science and engineering, Carnegie Mellon University; Phil Jaunzemis, supervisor, global raw materials group, Carpenter Technology Corp.; Nicole Sitler, junior process engineer, Hatch Associates; Rachel Lukas, student, University of Pittsburgh; Tyler Krisko, reliability engineer, U. S. Steel – Mon Valley Works; and Larrin Thomas, research project engineer, United States Steel Corporation.

On Monday, 14 November 2016, the AIST Pittsburgh Member Chapter and the Association of Women in the Metal Industry’s Pittsburgh Chapter co-hosted a dinner meeting at the Sheraton Hotel Pittsburgh at Station Square in Pittsburgh, Pa., USA. The event featured a keynote presentation by Lisa Gordon, ferrous scrap editor, American Metal Market. There were 130 attendees at the joint dinner.

The AIST Pittsburgh Member Chapter hosted a dinner meeting on Monday, 10 October 2016, at the Sheraton Pittsburgh Hotel at Station Square in Pittsburgh, Pa., USA. More than 120 members and guests attended the dinner meeting, which featured a keynote presentation by Thomas P. DeLuca, vice president and general manager, primary operations, ATI Flat Rolled Products. DeLuca’s insightful presentation provided an overview of ATI’s new hot rolling and process facility in Brackenridge, Pa., USA.

Plant Tour — September 2016
U. S. Steel – Mon Valley Works hosted the AIST Pittsburgh Member Chapter’s fall plant tour on 14 September 2016. Twenty participants toured the Edgar Thomson Plant’s steelmaking shop in Braddock, Pa., USA, seeing the facility’s two oxygen converters and the twin-strand continuous slab caster. The attendees observed a vessel tapping, hot metal desulfurization and skimming and a vessel hot metal charge at the steel shop, and witnessed a caster ladle exchange at the caster. The participants were impressed with the facility and very appreciative of the opportunity to tour one of the oldest continuously operating steel plants in the world. The Pittsburgh Member Chapter thanks Mon Valley Works manager Amy Smith-Yoder and her great management team for being such gracious hosts.

Dinner Meeting — April 2016
On Monday, 11 April 2016, the Pittsburgh Member Chapter hosted a dinner meeting at the Sheraton Pittsburgh Hotel at Station Square in Pittsburgh, Pa., USA. AIST president George Koenig, director — global business and technology development, Iron & Steel, Hatch Associates Inc. provided a global steel overview in his keynote presentation to the 115 attendees.
A special welcome was given to LCDR Steve Asseff, USN, Pittsburgh Member Chapter vice chair, United States Steel Corporation, who returned home after 13 months of active duty supporting the U.S. European command.

There were 142 attendees who enjoyed Witheford’s comprehensive overview.
Chapter secretary Bob Conley, Factory Source LLC, was honored as the 2015 AIST Pittsburgh Member Chapter Outstanding Service Award winner and was presented with a plaque in appreciation for his participation and years of dedicated effort to the chapter.

Golf Outing — July 2015
On Monday, 20 July 2015, the Pittsburgh Member Chapter’s annual golf outing was held at the Treesdale Golf & Country Club in Gibsonia, Pa., USA. The format was a scramble, and 124 golfers participated in this year’s event. More than 140 individuals attended the dinner, which included the golfers and other local members of the chapter. A silent auction was held during the dinner and featured autographed sports memorabilia and artwork by local artists. A 50/50 raffle raised an additional US$797 for the Pittsburgh Member Chapter scholarship fund.

There were more than 200 attendees at the meeting, including AIST Foundation president Fred Harnack, and AISTech 2015 Town Hall Forum panelist and AIST president-elect George Koenig of Berry Metal Co.

Joint Dinner Meeting with AWMI — November 2014
On Monday, 3 November 2014, the AIST Pittsburgh Member Chapter and the Association of Women in the Metal Industries (AWMI) Pittsburgh Chapter co-hosted a dinner meeting at the Sheraton Hotel Pittsburgh at Station Square in Pittsburgh, Pa., USA. The event featured a keynote presentation by U.S. Congressman Tim Murphy (R-PA), representative of the 18th district of Pennsylvania and chair of the Congressional Steel Caucus for the U.S. House of Representatives. There were 169 attendees at the dinner. 

Golf Outing — July 2014
The Pittsburgh Member Chapter held its annual golf outing on Monday, 21 July 2014, at Treesdale Golf and Country Club in Gibsonia, Pa., USA. This year’s outing had 189 golfers and nearly 200 attendees for dinner. Proceeds from the event will benefit the AIST Pittsburgh Member Chapter scholarship fund. The winning foursome included Harry Zaruba of Herr-Voss Stamco, Jerry Brenneman of Herr-Voss Stamco, Rick Stepputtis of Wheeling-Nisshin and Andrew Orr of Penna Flame.

Dinner Meeting — April 2014 
On Monday, 7 April 2014, the Pittsburgh Member Chapter hosted a dinner meeting at the Sheraton Station Square in Pittsburgh, Pa., USA. The keynote at the dinner was delivered by David Sweitzer, project director, Tenova HYL. Sweitzer discussed the start-up of Nucor Steel Louisiana LLC in St. James Parish, La. There were 157 attendees at the dinner, including nine students and two professors. The students and professors were sponsored by the AIST Foundation’s Steel to Students Member Chapter Connection program.

Young Engineers Night Dinner Meeting — March 2014 
On Monday, 3 March 2014, the Pittsburgh Member Chapter hosted a dinner meeting at the Sheraton Station Square. This dinner was the first Young Engineers Night in the region and included a panel of six young engineers: Andrew Harmon of AK Steel Corp. – Butler Works, Brayton Carner of Berry Metal Co., Andre Assis of Carnegie Mellon University, Michael Barry of Hatch, Karen Brinker of Uhde Corp. of America, and Brian Crawford of U. S. Steel – Mon Valley Works. The panel was moderated by chapter chair, Lauren Keating of the U. S. Steel – Mon Valley Works; and chapter vice chair, Bernie Marrese of Universal Stainless and Alloy Products. There were 195 attendees at the dinner. The chapter hopes to make this an annual event.

Dinner Meeting — February 2014 
On Monday, 3 February 2014, the AIST Pittsburgh Member Chapter welcomed AIST president Terry G. Fedor II of Cliffs Natural Resources as the keynote speaker at its dinner meeting at the Sheraton Station Square in Pittsburgh, Pa. Fedor’s presentation focused on how natural gas is creating a competitive advantage for U.S. producers and is driving a manufacturing renaissance cross the country. There were 160 attendees at the dinner, which also featured a preview of AISTech 2014 by AIST executive director, Ron Ashburn.

Holiday Social — December 2013
On Wednesday, 3 December 2013, the AIST Pittsburgh Member Chapter hosted a holiday social at the Rivers Casino in Pittsburgh, Pa., USA. More than 130 attendees were there for the networking reception and social hour.

Joint Meeting with AWMI — November 2013
The Pittsburgh Chapters of the Association for Iron & Steel Technology (AIST) and the Association of Women in the Metal Industries (AWMI) held their annual joint dinner meeting on 18 November 2013 at the Sheraton Station Square in Pittsburgh, Pa., USA. The event featured a keynote presentation by William A. Wulfsohn, president and chief executive officer of Carpenter Technology Corp. There were more than 250 attendees present at the dinner.

Dinner Meeting — October 2013
The Pittsburgh Member Chapter hosted a dinner meeting on Monday, 7 October 2013 at the Sheraton Station Square in Pittsburgh, Pa. The event featured a keynote presentation by Raymond W. Monroe, executive vice president of the Steel Founders’ Society of America. Monroe’s presentation was titled “How Did We Get Here? Capital Investment and Steel Production.” The Pittsburgh Member Chapter presented a check to the AIST Foundation in the amount of US$25,000 in honor of Dr. Kent D. Peaslee, 2012–2013 AIST president, who passed away in May 2013. The check was accepted by Fred Harnack, president of the AIST Foundation. Also at the meeting, Pittsburgh Member Chapter chair Lauren Keating was presented with the 2013 AIST Pittsburgh Member Chapter’s Robert W. Rike Outstanding Service Award for her service and dedication to the chapter. There were more than 130 attendees at the meeting.

Golf Outing — July 2013
The Pittsburgh Member Chapter hosted its annual golf outing and dinner on Monday, 15 July 2013 at the Treesdale Golf and Country Club in Gibsonia, Pa. There were 156 participants in the golf outing. This year’s outing also included a silent auction with autographed items from local Pittsburgh sports teams and artists. A 50/50 raffle was also held. Proceeds from the silent auction and 50/50 raffle will benefit AIST Pittsburgh Member Chapter scholarships.

Dinner Meeting — April 2013
On Monday, 8 April, the Pittsburgh Member Chapter hosted a dinner meeting at the Sheraton Station Square in Pittsburgh, Pa. The keynote speaker for the dinner was Dennis Oates, chairman of the board, president and chief executive officer of Universal Stainless & Alloy Products. Oates provided an update of the company’s North Jackson, Ohio, investment. Universal purchased the facility — the assets of Patriot Special Metals, a substantially completed greenfield facility — in August 2011, making it the company’s fourth location alongside facilities in Bridgeville, Pa.; Titusville, Pa.; and Dunkirk, N.Y. Universal, headquartered in Bridgeville, Pa., manufactures and markets semi-finished and finished specialty steels, including stainless steel, tool steel and certain other alloyed steels. There were 110 attendees at the dinner, including students from Carnegie Mellon University, sponsored by the AIST Foundation’s Steel to Students Member Chapter Connection program.

Dinner Meeting — March 2013
On Monday, 11 March 2013, the Pittsburgh Member Chapter hosted a dinner meeting with keynote presentation by Mario Longhi, executive vice president and chief operating officer of United States Steel Corporation. The evening also included remarks from AIST executive director, Ron Ashburn, who discussed AISTech 2013 in Pittsburgh, Pa. There were 330 attendees at the meeting.

Dinner Meeting — February 2013
On Monday, 11 February 2013, the AIST Pittsburgh Member Chapter hosted a dinner meeting with a keynote presentation by AIST president, Kent Peaslee. Dr. Peaslee is the F. Kenneth Iverson Chair of Steelmaking Technology and Curators’ Teaching Professor of Metallurgical Engineering at the Missouri University of Science and Technology. The evening also included remarks from AIST executive director, Ron Ashburn, who discussed AISTech 2013 in Pittsburgh, Pa. There were 120 attendees at the meeting, including several students from Carnegie Mellon University. The students’ attendance was sponsored by the AIST Foundation.

The Pittsburgh Member Chapter holiday social was held on Wednesday, 5 December at the Hofbräuhaus in Pittsburgh, Pa. There were approximately 150 attendees at the social.

Joint Dinner Meeting with AWMI — November 2012
On Tuesday, 13 November, the Pittsburgh Member Chapter co-hosted a dinner meeting with the Association of Women in the Metal Industries (AWMI) at the Sheraton Station Square in Pittsburgh, Pa. Scott Buckiso, general manager, U. S. Steel – Mon Valley Works was the keynote speaker for the evening. There were 285 attendees at the dinner.

Golf Outing — July 2012
The Pittsburgh Member Chapter’s annual golf outing and dinner was held on Monday, 16 July 2012 at the Treesdale Golf and Country Club in Gibsonia, Pa. The event was a sell-out with more than 220 registered participants. Following a great day of golf, a reception and dinner were held for the attendees. Along with the proceeds from the outing, a 50/50 drawing collected US$1,046 for the Pittsburgh Member Chapter Scholarship Fund. A new feature this year was a silent auction, which featured Pittsburgh sports-related memorabilia. Proceeds from the auction will also go to the Pittsburgh Member Chapter Scholarship fund. The winning foursome included Dean Casello, Dale Shemelya, Wade Stull and Bob Pritchard from A.C. Dellovade Inc., with a score of 13 under par.

On Monday, 16 April, the Pittsburgh Member Chapter hosted a dinner meeting at the Sheraton Station Square in Pittsburgh, Pa. The keynote speaker for the evening was Thomas M. Scarnati, manager of marketing and sales for Tenova HYL. There were more than 100 attendees at the dinner, which concluded spring programming for the chapter.

On Monday, 12 March 2012, the Pittsburgh Member Chapter hosted a dinner meeting at the Sheraton Station Square in Pittsburgh, Pa. The keynote presenter was R. Joseph Stratman, executive vice president, Nucor Corp., and the 2011–2012 AIST president. There were 160 attendees at the dinner.

Babcoke, senior vice president, Europe and Global Operations Services for United States Steel Corporation. There were nearly 300 attendees at the event, including students from Carnegie Mellon University, sponsored by the AIST Foundation.
