worldsteel Releases Short Range Outlook

01 May 2012 - The World Steel Association (worldsteel) released its April 2012 Short Range Outlook (SRO) for 2012 and 2013, forecasting that global apparent steel use will increase by 3.6% to 1,422 million tonnes in 2012, following growth of 5.6% in 2011. In 2013, world steel demand is forecast to grow an additional 4.5% to around 1,486 million tonnes.

Siemens to Supply Merchant Bar Mill to BMM Ispat in India

30 April 2012 - Siemens VAI Metals Technologies has received an order from BMM Ispat to supply a new merchant bar mill for its Hospet production location. Commissioning of this rolling mill with an annual capacity of 850,000 tonnes is scheduled for the end of 2013.

Tenova Supplies Consteel EAF to Jiangsu Heavy Industry

30 April 2012 - Tenova achieved the first heat of the melting unit for MCC Beris Jiangsu Heavy Industry Corp. - Feida Group in China: a medium and heavy plate casting-rolling production line. The technology combines Tenova electric arc furnace and Consteel® with other technologies from Beris.

Siemens to Modernize NatSteel Finger-Shaft Electric Arc Furnace

27 April 2012 - Siemens VAI Metals Technologies has received an order from NatSteel Holdings to modernize the finger-shaft electric arc furnace in its Singapore Works. The project involves installing a new FAST system, renewing the furnace shaft and the lower shell, and bringing the automation of the arc and ladle furnace up to state-of-the-art.

SMS Siemag to Supply Electric Furnace, Ladle Furnace for PT Gunung

27 April 2012 - PT Gunung has contracted SMS Siemag for the supply of an ARCCESS® electric arc furnace and ladle furnace for the new steelmaking plant complex in Bekasi, Indonesia. The furnaces are rated for an annual production of 1.2 million tonnes.

23 April 2012 - Crude steel production for the 62 countries reporting to the World Steel Association was 132 million tonnes (Mt) in March 2012, an increase of 1.8% compared to March 2011. Production for the first quarter of 2012 was 377 Mt, 1.1% higher than the first quarter of 2011.
