29 July 2004 - Cleveland-Cliffs Inc reported net income of $32.8 million on total revenues of 305.6 million in the second quarter and net income of $32.8 million on total revenues of 546.4 million for the first six months of 2004.

29 July 2004 - Dofasco Inc. reported consolidated net income of $110.5 million on consolidated sales of $1,061.6 million for the second quarter of 2004. The company credits the strong pricing environment, robust demand and excellent operating performance for its record quarterly results.

ISG Enters Long-Term Coke Supply Agreements

29 July 2004 - International Steel Group Inc. has signed a letter of intent with Sun Coke Co., a subsidiary of Sunoco, for a 15-year supply agreement totaling over one million tons per year beginning in 2006.

Ispat Inland and Union Extend Current Agreements

28 July 2004 - Ispat Inland Inc. and the United Steelworkers of America have agreed to extend their collective-bargaining agreements until midnight Aug. 15. Labor contracts covering workers at three Ispat Inland locations were to expire this Saturday, July 31.

Steel Imports Surge in June 2004

28 July 2004 - Based on preliminary Census Bureau data, the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported that June imports of steel into the United States were 9% higher than in May, with finished steel imports uo 14% compared to May. This was the highest month for total imports since February 2002, and the highest month for finished steel imports since September 2002. Year-to-date (YTD) total and finished steel imports are up 16% and 14%, respectively, compared to the same period last year.

ISG Completes Purchase of HBI Facility in Trinidad and Tobago

28 July 2004 - International Steel Group Inc. has completed the purchase of substantially all of the assets of the Cliffs and Associates Limited (CAL) Circored® Hot Briquetted Iron (HBI) facility located in Trinidad and Tobago, for a purchase price of $8 million in cash, plus assumed liabilities. CAL may receive up to $10 million in future payments contingent upon production and shipments.

Gerdau Ameristeel Appoints Chief Operating Officer

27 July 2004 - Gerdau Ameristeel Corp. announced the appointment of Andre Johannpeter as Chief Operating Officer. In his new position, Mr. Johannpeter will be responsible for all North American consolidated steel manufacturing and commercial operations, as well as raw materials procurement.

Quanex Updates Third Quarter Outlook

24 July 2004 - Quanex Corp. expects to report third quarter diluted earnings per share from continuing operations in the range of $1.20 to $1.25 when financial results are reported on August 26, 2004. The company commented that its guidance includes an estimate for an expected third quarter LIFO charge, the result of rising raw material costs. The current earnings outlook is up from previous guidance as Quanex continues to experience strong demand and margin improvements, together with results from its two recent acquisitions that continue to exceed expectations.
