24 November 2010 - The U.S. imported a total of 1,791,000 net tons of steel in October, down 14% from September final data, according to the most recent report from AISI.

17 November 2010 - U.S. steel mills shipped 7,140,369 net tons for the month of September 2010, a 1.2% decrease from the previous month’s shipments and a 23.3% increase from the 5,792,608 net tons shipped in September 2009, according to the latest report from AISI.

Metal Shipments Continue Growth Trend in October

17 November 2010 - North American metals service center shipments continued to increase at robust rates in October, according to the Metals Activity Report from the Metals Service Center Institute. Inventory-to-sales ratios remained stable for both steel and aluminum in the U.S. and Canada.

04 November 2010 - Steel import permit applications reached a total of 1,812,000 net tons for the month of October, a 13% decrease from the 2,075,000 permit tons recorded in September, according to the latest report from AISI.

YTD Stainless Imports up More than 70% through July 2010

29 October 2010 - Total stainless steel imports reached 352,762 tons in YTD July 2010, a 70.5% increase compared to the comparable year-ago period according to the latest report SSINA. Total specialty steel imports were up 63.1% through the same period.

27 October 2010 - The U.S. imported a total of 2,107,000 net tons of steel in September, down 3% from August data according to the latest report from AISI. The September total includes 1,589,000 net tons of finished steel, down 6% from August data.

19 October 2010 - Very little change occurred in North American metals service center shipment and inventory trends in September, according to the latest Metals Activity Report from the Metals Service Center Institute. Sequential steel inventories rose slightly in both the United States and Canada.

August Steel Shipments up 11.5% from July

19 October 2010 - U.S. steel mills shipped 7,224,190 net tons for the month of August 2010, an 11.5% increase from the previous month’s shipments and a 29.7% increase from the 5,570,368 net tons shipped in August 2009, according to the latest report from AISI.

USITC Determines Seamless Pipe from China Threatens U.S. Industry

18 October 2010 - The United States International Trade Commission has determined that a U.S. industry is threatened with material injury by reason of imports of seamless carbon and alloy steel standard, line, and pressure pipe from China that the U.S. Department of Commerce has determined are subsidized and sold in the U.S. at less than fair value. As a result, Commerce will issue antidumping and countervailing duty orders on imports of these products from China.

worldsteel Provides Short Range Outlook for Steel Industry

05 October 2010 - The World Steel Association forecasts in its October 2010 short range outlook (SRO) for 2010 and 2011 that apparent steel use will increase by 13.1% to 1,272 million tonnes in 2010 after declining by 6.6% in 2009. This represents an improvement of 35 million tonnes over the April SRO for 2010, exceeding the pre-crisis peak of 1,222 million tonnes in 2007.

House Resolution Supports Effective Enforcement of Trade Laws

01 October 2010 - Representatives Roy Blunt, Spencer Bachus, Sam Graves, Jo Ann Emerson, Todd Akin, and Blaine Luetkemeyer have introduced House Resolution 1681, supporting effective enforcement of United States trade laws. The Coalition for Enforcement of Antidumping and Countervailing Duty Orders praises the resolution.

Stainless Steel Production Increases for First Half of 2010

21 September 2010 - Stainless steel crude steel production has increased in the first half of 2010 by 44.3% compared to the same period of 2009, according to preliminary figures released by the International Stainless Steel Forum. Total production for the first six months of 2010 was 15.6 million tonnes.
