Severstal North America Employees Reach Out to Furry Friends in Need
06/14/2013 - In an effort to give back to their local communities and help those in need, employees from both Severstal Dearborn and Severstal Columbus have collected pet food, supplies and monetary gifts to donate to their local animal shelters.
In an effort to give back to their local communities and help those in need, employees from both Severstal Dearborn and Severstal Columbus have collected pet food, supplies and monetary gifts to donate to their local animal shelters.
In addition to the US$2,200 raised for the shelter’s Mutt Strut event, Dearborn employees brought in a total of 7,262 pounds of pet food for the Dearborn Animal Shelter’s Operation Feed Fido program. Columbus employees raised a total of US$5,223.46 for the construction of a new Lowndes County Humane Society building, along with 145 pounds of pet food and various supplies needed at the shelter.
Ron Kostyo, vice president and general manager, Severstal Dearborn, commented on the event saying, “In its second year, The Dearborn Animal Shelter Food Drive was a great success. I am always thankful for and proud of the compassion and thoughtfulness of our workforce. Looking out for our neighbors, even the furry kind, is an important part of life.”
Angie Atkins, manager, safety, Severstal Columbus, added, “We really appreciate all the support that the employees of Severstal Columbus gave our local Humane Society. Everyone was a great sport and had so much fun participating.”
Elaine Greene, executive director, Friends for the Dearborn Animal Shelter, applauded the efforts of Severstal Dearborn saying, “We are so grateful to our friends at Severstal and the many donors and volunteers whole helped make this donation to our Operation Feed Fido program possible. It is our pet food bank for those in need. Many families in the community will benefit from this generous donation, which helps to keep families together while they get back on their feet.”
