AISI: U.S. Steel Import Permits Up 7% in August
04 September 2013 - The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported that steel import permit applications for the month of August total 2,686,000 tons: a 7% increase from the 2,508,000 permit tons recorded in July and 9% increase from the July preliminary imports total of 2,475,000 tons.
Severstal North America Announces Appointment of New CEO
03 September 2013 - Severstal, one of the world’s largest steel and mining companies, announced it has appointed Saikat Dey as chief executive officer of its subsidiary Severstal North America. Dey replaces Sergei Kuznetsov, who departed after four years as CEO of the company.

03 September 2013 - The new apprenticeship year at ThyssenKrupp Steel Europe AG has begun. As of 1 September the company has taken on a total of 316 apprentices in 21 different occupations — 270 young men and 46 young women.
