20 August 2013 - Salzgitter Flachstahl GmbH announced it will raise its flat steel prices by € 30 per ton for all new orders as from 1 September 2013.

U. S. Steel President Mario Longhi to Become CEO; John Surma Becomes Executive Chairman

19 August 2013 - United States Steel Corporation's Board of Directors elected president and chief operating officer Mario Longhi as a director, and announced that he will succeed Chairman John P. Surma as chief executive officer effective 1 September 2013. Surma will retain the position of executive chairman through 31 December 2013 when he will retire from the company and from the board of directors.

USW Members Ratify Labor Agreement for AK Steel's Ashland Works

19 August 2013 - AK Steel said that members of the United Steelworkers (USW) Local 1865 union have ratified an 18-month labor agreement covering more than 800 hourly production and maintenance steel operations employees at the company's Ashland, Ky., Works.

19 August 2013 - The United States International Trade Commission (USITC) determined that there is a reasonable indication that a U.S. industry is materially injured by reason of imports of certain oil country tubular goods from India, Korea, the Philippines, Saudi Arabia, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, Ukraine, and Vietnam that are allegedly sold in the U.S. at less than fair value and allegedly subsidized by the governments of India and Turkey.

19 August 2013 - United States Steel Corporation chairman and chief executive officer John P. Surma announced that general counsel and senior vice president – corporate affairs James D. Garraux has informed the company of his plan to retire by the end of 2013 after 34 years with the company.

U.S. Service Center Shipments Reverse Declines in July

15 August 2013 - In July, the pattern of consistent monthly decline of U.S. steel and aluminum shipments reversed, with shipments increasing approximately 5% over last year, the Metals Service Center Institute (MSCI) reported. In Canada, July shipments of both steel and aluminum continued to decline but at rates that were much slower than June.
