SMS Demag Consortium Commissions Shanghai Stainless Meltshop

01 August 2005 - Acting as leader of an international consortium, SMS Demag AG, Germany, has successfully commissioned Chinese SBGC Shanghai No. 1 Iron & Steel Co. Ltd.’s new stainless steel meltshop. The unit was started two months ahead of schedule.

Danieli to Supply Superflexible Minimill for Siderurgica Balboa

01 August 2005 - Siderurgica Balboa, Spain, has contracted Danieli to supply a new 1.2 million tonne/year superflexible minimill. The new plant is one of the largest projects of this kind ever undertaken in Europe and will produce small and medium size long products from 5.5 diameter wire rod up to 600 mm H-beam.

Siemens VAI to Supply Hot Strip Mill for Mittal Steel

01 August 2005 - Mittal Steel has announced plans to build a new hot strip mill in Cracow, Poland. The new 2.4 million tonnes/year mill, which will be able to roll steel strips up to 2100 mm wide, will be among the largest of its kind in Europe.

ThyssenKrupp Stahl and Dusseldorf Government Conclude Air Pollution Control Agreement

01 August 2005 - ThyssenKrupp Stahl AG and the District Government of Düsseldorf have signed an agreement to reduce particulate air pollution in the north of Duisburg. The agreement was prompted by the District Government’s requirement to draw up an action plan. This links up with the Air Pollution Control Plan of Fall 2004 and is aimed at achieving a fast reduction in particulate air pollution (PM 10).

SMS Meer to Provide Mechanical Expander for JSC Chelyabinsk

01 August 2005 - JSC Chelyabinsk, Russia, has placed an order with SMS Meer GmbH, Germany, for the supply of a further single-head mechanical expander, the second of this kind to be ordered from SMS Meer.

Danieli to Supply Ladle Furnace for Highveld

01 August 2005 - Danieli Centro Met will supply a 75-tonne ladle furnace to Highveld Steel, South Africa. The contract will be carried out on a turnkey basis, and including a materials handling system and water treatment plant.

SMS Demag to Supply Gas Generating Plant for Aceralia

01 August 2005 - Aceralia Corporación Siderúrgica, SA (Arcelor Group), Spain, has placed an order with SMS Demag, Germany, to expand the gas generating plant for two 290-tonne converters in the LD Steel Plant A in Avilés.

Kobe Steel Introduces Antibacterial Coating for Fisheries

01 August 2005 - The Fuji Trout Hatchery at the Shizuoka Prefectural Fisheries Experiment Station has been conducting research on decreasing the occurrence of parasitic water mold, which affects the yield of fertilized eggs of rainbow trout and other fish in the salmon family. The study found that Kobe Steel's antibacterial coating, Kenifine, was effective at reducing parasitic water mold.
