Amurmetal, Komsomolsk-on-Amur, Russia, has placed an order with SMS Demag AG, Germany, for the supply of a single-strand continuous slab caster.

The slab caster is designed for slabs with thicknesses of 200 and 250 mm and widths ranging from 1000 to 1900 mm. The planned annual capacity is one million tonnes.

SMS Demag’s scope of supply covers the mechanical equipment, electrical and automation systems (including Level 2), supervision of erection and commissioning, and training of operating personnel.

Commissioning is scheduled for February 2007.

Amurmetal produces long and flat products with several continuous casters. A large portion of the product is exported to China. Komsomolsk-on-Amur is a major industrial center with ferrous metallurgy, mechanical engineering, petroleum processing, shipbuilding and the aeronautical industry.
