22 March 2012 - World crude steel production grew by 3.3% in 2011, reaching a total of 32.1 million tonnes according to the latest report from the International Stainless Steel Forum (ISSF). The 2011 total represents a new stainless steel production record for a single year.

21 March 2012 - Mechel OAO has conducted the first smelting of ferrosilicon on its newly installed ferroalloy electric furnace at the Bratsk Ferroalloy Plant of the group’s ferroalloys division. This is the first of four electric furnaces to be installed at the plant.

February World Crude Steel Production Up 1.9% vs. February 2011

21 March 2012 - World crude steel production for the 59 countries reporting to the World Steel Association stood at 119.2 million tonnes for February 2012, 1.9% higher in comparison with February 2011 and 2.1% higher than the previous month, January 2012.

Both secondary metallurgical facilities are scheduled for commissioning in spring 2013.
