Stelco Comments on Legal Action Taken by General Motors

11 June 2004 - Stelco Inc. commented on action taken on Thursday by General Motors Corp. regarding its supply arrangements with Stelco's Lake Erie facility. Stelco has received a letter from General Motors and has been served with Motion materials seeking the Court's permission to terminate General Motors' supply arrangements with Stelco's Lake Erie facility effective July 31, 2004.

10 June 2004 - Structural Metals, Inc. has suffered failure of the primary and principal backup electric arc furnace transformers at its Seguin, Texas, facility (SMI Texas).

Timken to Increase Tubing Steel Prices

09 June 2004 - The Timken Corp. announced it would increase prices on tubular steel products by 3-1/2 to 10%, depending on size, grade and finish of the steel. Double thermal-treated products will increase an additional 2%.

Roanoke Electric Steel Reports 2nd Quarter Results

09 June 2004 - Roanoke Electric Steel Corp. reported net earnings of $5,222,056 on record sales of $118,949,522 for the second quarter and net earnings of $6,755,732 on sales of $206,205,032 for the six months ended April 30, 2004.

Avon Engineering to Supply Coil Packaging Line for Gibraltar

09 June 2004 - Gibraltar Strip Steel has selected Avon Engineering Limited to design, engineer, and build a new coil packaging system to complement and support the present slitting operations at the company’s Cleveland (Cuyahoga Heights) Division.

Timken to Increase Specialty Steel Prices

08 June 2004 - Timken Latrobe Steel announced it would increase prices by 4% on all air-melt stainless and remelted aerospace alloy steel grades. The price change is effective with all new orders received. Raw material surcharges will remain in effect.

Steel Dynamics Announces Commencement of Refinancing

08 June 2004 - Steel Dynamics, Inc. announced that it intends to launch syndication of a new $225 million senior secured revolving credit facility.

Stainless Crude Steel Production up 6.3%

08 June 2004 - Stainless crude steel production rose by 6.3% in the first quarter of 2004 compared to the same quarter in 2003, according to the International Stainless Steel Forum (ISSF). Total global production in the first quarter of 2004 was 6.1 million tonnes.

WCI Steel Begins Blast Furnace Reline

08 June 2004 - WCI Steel, Inc. announced that the $15.3 million reline of its blast furnace began on schedule Friday, with the furnace expected to come back on line July 17.

Nucor to Purchase Corus Tuscaloosa Assets

08 June 2004 - Nucor Corp. has entered into an agreement to purchase substantially all of the steelmaking assets of Corus Tuscaloosa for a cash purchase price of approximately $90 million.

Nucor Restarts Kankakee Bar and Section Mill

04 June 2004 - Nucor Steel Kankakee recently restarted operations on their bar and section mill following completion of a modernization project by Danieli Morgårdshammar. The project included replacement of the existing cooling bed and services for better coping with productivity and product quality requirements.

04 June 2004 - With the closing of the Weirton Steel Acquisition, ISG became North America’s largest integrated steel producer. Nucor Upgrades Coil Temperature Control Mode

04 June 2004 - Nucor recently replaced the computer model on the Hickman facility’s hot mill, and modified the control strategy for sequencing the spray cooling system on the runout tables. The upgrade has provided tighter and more advanced temperature control.

Quanex Announces 2nd Quarter Results

04 June 2004 - Quanex Corp. announced record net income of $11.5 million on record net sales of $406.0 million for the fiscal second quarter ending April 30, 2004. Results included three months results from the company's acquisitions of MacSteel Monroe and TruSeal Technologies.

04 June 2004 - Vehicular Products Segment—"North American light vehicle builds remained at very robust levels during the quarter and MacSteel's operations ran close to their rated capacity,” comments Jean. “Backlogs in the third quarter remain healthy, although light vehicle inventories at the retail level are a concern. Our Vehicular Products segment also benefited from excellent heavy duty truck production during the second quarter, which continues to outpace year ago figures by nearly 50%.

USS Chairman Comments on Decision to Halt OECD Talks

04 June 2004 - Commenting on the decision by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD) to halt discussion of the anti-subsidy agreement, United States Steel Corporation Chairman and CEO Thomas J. Usher said, "I would like to thank President Bush and Secretary Evans and their negotiating team for their efforts on behalf of the steel industry in pursuing this anti-subsidy agreement. We, of course, want these talks to be successfully completed as soon as possible. We realize, however, that major changes in thinking by some will be required and this will take time.

CMC Increases Quarterly Cash Dividend by 25%

03 June 2004 - Commercial Metals Co.’s Board of Directors raised the company’s quarterly cash dividend from eight to ten cents per share, an increase of 25%.

Northwest Pipe Announces Major Order

03 June 2004 - Northwest Pipe Co. was named as pipe supplier to RCI Construction Group of Sumner, Wash., for approximately $5 million of welded steel pipe and fittings. The product will be used for the Second Supply Line Phase V, a project for Tacoma Public Utilities.

Nucor Announces 125th Consecutive Cash Dividend

03 June 2004 - Nucor Corp.’s Board of Directors declared the regular quarterly cash dividend of twenty-one cents (21 cents) per share on Nucor's common stock.

Nucor to Acquire Decatur Cold Mill from Worthington

28 May 2004 - Nucor Corp. has entered into an agreement with Worthington Industries, Inc. for the purchase of certain assets of their cold rolling mill in Decatur, Ala., for a cash purchase price of approximately $82 million.
