Nucor Upgrades Coil Temperature Control Mode

Nucor recently replaced the computer model on the Hickman facility’s hot mill, and modified the control strategy for sequencing the spray cooling system on the runout tables. The upgrade has provided tighter and more advanced temperature control.

Industrial Process Support Services (IPSS) performed this work on a short project cycle. The new control immediately produced the targeted goals.

Industrial Process Support Services, Inc. (IPSS), Roanoke, Va., has supplied mathematical models, control systems, and process consulting to the metals industry since 1985. Using their unique 3D process, IPSS has delivered systems to control gauge, width, temperature and loopers to North America's premier hot, plate and cold rolling mills. IPSS has also developed interfaces to several proprietary networks (e.g., GE CSF & DLAN, Toshiba Tosline, Siemens H1) as well as a high-performance Data Analysis System to help troubleshoot product and process problems.
