SSINA Data Shows Stainless Steel Imports, Consumption Down

11 January 2010 - Imports of total stainless steel in YTD September 2009 were 268,732 tons, a 54.9% decrease compared to the same period of 2008, according to data recently released by The Specialty Steel Industry of North America (SSINA). U.S. consumption was 991,809 tons, down 34.3%.

Schnitzer Steel Reports Q1 Results

08 January 2010 - Schnitzer Steel Industries reports diluted earnings per share from continuing operations of $0.23 for its fiscal 2010 first quarter ended November 30, 2009. This compares with diluted loss per share from continuing operations of $1.16 during the first quarter of fiscal 2009.

Plymouth Tube First to Attain Dual NADCAP Accreditation

08 January 2010 - Plymouth Tube Co.’s Salisbury Mill attains NADCAP accreditation for both heat treating and material testing laboratories. The mill is the first North American tubing manufacturer to earn the dual accreditation from NADCAP for seamless stainless aerospace tubing.

Steel Import Permits Decline 9% in December

07 January 2010 - Steel import permit applications reached 1,326,000 net tons for the month of December, a 9% decrease from the 1,450,000 permit tons recorded in November 2009, according to the latest report from AISI.

Worthington Reports Q2 Results

07 January 2010 - Worthington Industries, Inc. reports net sales of $448.0 million and net earnings of $23.2 million, or $0.29 per diluted share, for the fiscal 2010 second quarter ended November 30, 2009. The results show sequential improvement from the first quarter.
