House Resolution Supports Effective Enforcement of Trade Laws
01 October 2010 - Representatives Roy Blunt, Spencer Bachus, Sam Graves, Jo Ann Emerson, Todd Akin, and Blaine Luetkemeyer have introduced House Resolution 1681, supporting effective enforcement of United States trade laws. The Coalition for Enforcement of Antidumping and Countervailing Duty Orders praises the resolution.
Tonawanda Coke Found by EPA to be Significant Source of Benzene
01 October 2010 - The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency had ordered Tonawanda Coke Corp. to conduct testing under government oversight to determine if the company is a major source of hazardous air pollutants under the federal Clean Air Act. Results showed that TCC does meet this definition and that the majority of benzene being emitted is coming from the process area.
Esmark Consolidates U.S. Operations; Names New Execs
30 September 2010 - Esmark Steel Group is consolidating its U.S. service center operations: Century Steel, Sun Steel, Chicago Steel & Iron, and Independent Steel will operate as Esmark Steel Group. In a related announcement, Scott Sternheimer has been named VP of Sales for Esmark Steel Group, effective immediately.
Tube City IMS Recognized with Safety Awards
30 September 2010 - Several of Tube City IMS Corp.’s sites received a total of 58 Safety Awards from the National Slag Association (NSA) for 2009. Three Tube City IMS employees also received NSA Best Practices Awards, and one employee was the winner of the NSA safety slogan contest.
Worthington Reports 1st Quarter Fiscal 2011 Results

Quad Infotech Implements [QMOS] MES system at Gerdau Ameristeel Plant
29 September 2010 - Quad Infotech has started the implementation of its [QMOS] MES system at Gerdau Ameristeel's Sayreville's plant, which will allow Sayreville to coordinate its steelmaking and rolling operations from the scrap yard through to bundling and shipping operations.
Steel Dynamics to Buy Joist-Making Assets from Commercial Metals
29 September 2010 - Steel Dynamics, Inc. has agreed to acquire from affiliates of Commercial Metals Co. certain facilities and assets of CMC's former steel-joist manufacturing operations. These assets will become a part of SDI's wholly owned subsidiary, New Millennium Building Systems.
Preliminary Steel Imports Slip 11% in August
29 September 2010 - The U.S. imported a total of 2,155,000 net tons of steel in August, down 11% from July data, according to the latest report from AISI. The August total included 1,668,000 net tons of finished steel, down 8% from July data.
Steel Industry Calls for Currency Reform Legislation
28 September 2010 - Five key steel organizations, including the American Iron and Steel Institute, have sent a letter to all the members of the U.S. House of Representatives urging their support of the amended version of H.R. 2378, The Currency Reform for Fair Trade Act.

United States Steel Kicks Off Annual United Way Campaign
22 September 2010 - United States Steel Corp. kicked off its Pittsburgh-area 2010 United Way employee campaign by hosting its annual Party on the Plaza event on Sept. 21 outside the U. S. Steel Tower. The event is the largest one-day fundraising event for the United Way of Allegheny County.
YTD Stainless Steel Imports up 66% Through June 2010
22 September 2010 - Total stainless steel imports reached 291,841 tons in YTD June 2010, a 66.0% increase compared to the comparable year-ago period according to the latest report from SSINA. Total specialty steel imports were up 56.1% through the same period.
World Crude Steel Production up 4.2% in August
22 September 2010 - World crude steel production for the 66 countries reporting to the World Steel Association stood at an estimated 112.87 million tonnes in August 2010 — a 1.7% decrease from the previous month (July 2010) and a 4.2% increase vs. August 2009.

21 September 2010 - Posco recently completed its POSCO-AAPC automotive steel sheet processing center near Birmingham, which can process 120,000 tons automotive steel sheets annually.
Stainless Steel Production Increases for First Half of 2010
21 September 2010 - Stainless steel crude steel production has increased in the first half of 2010 by 44.3% compared to the same period of 2009, according to preliminary figures released by the International Stainless Steel Forum. Total production for the first six months of 2010 was 15.6 million tonnes.
Metal Shipment Growth Rate Rebounds in August 2010
20 September 2010 - The rate of growth of steel and aluminum shipments from North American metals service centers rebounded in August, according to the latest Metals Activity Report from the Metals Service Center Institute. Inventories of both metals changed very little during the month in both the U.S. and Canada.
