AISI: December U.S. Imports Down 11% from November
03 January 2013 - The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported that U.S. steel import permit applications for the month of December totaled 2,358,000 tons. This was a 10% decrease from the 2,615,000 permit tons recorded in November and down 11% from the November preliminary imports total of 2,659,000 tons.
U.S. Preliminary Imports Rise 2% From October to November
02 January 2013 - Based on preliminary Census Bureau data, the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported that the U.S. imported a total of 2,659,000 tons of steel in November, including 1,988,000 tons of finished steel (up 2% and down 6%, respectively, from October final data).

World Crude Steel Production Rises 5% Year-on-Year
21 December 2012 - World crude steel production for the 62 countries reporting to the World Steel Association (worldsteel) was 122 million tonnes in November 2012, an increase of 5.1% compared to November 2011.
U.S. Steel Shipments Up 2.7% Month-on-Month in October
19 December 2012 - The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported that for the month of October 2012, U.S. steel mills shipped 7,430,267 tons, a 2.7% increase from the 7,233,375 tons shipped in the previous month, September 2012, and a 6.3% decrease from the 7,933,653 tons shipped in October 2011.
North American Service Center Shipments Down Year-on-Year in November
18 December 2012 - The slowdown in shipments from 2011 levels that has characterized the second half of 2012, resumed in November after a brief pick-up in October. Inventory to sales ratios deteriorated slightly across the board, the Metals Service Center Institute reports.
Steel Stud Manufacturers Association Funds $100,000 for 2013 Industry Research
17 December 2012 - The Steel Stud Manufacturers Association announced it will fund $100,000 in 2013 for industry research. It will contribute to the American Iron and Steel Institute’s cold-formed steel framing projects including their codes, standards and technology implementation program.
