AISI Announces Partnership with Platts for New Statistical Online Product to Replace SteelFACTS

The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) has entered into an exclusive licensing arrangement with Platts, a division of The McGraw-Hill Companies, Inc., for the distribution of its steel industry statistical data effective 1 January 2013. AISI has been collecting and reporting data on iron and steel production and shipments since its inception in 1855.
“We are pleased to enter into this agreement with Platts, a leader in providing data and other information not only to the steel industry, but also to other related industries,” AISI president and CEO, Thomas J. Gibson, said. “Platts’ on-line platform will provide a robust tool for the display and analysis of data. We are confident that the users of our data will benefit greatly from this partnership.”
“AISI is widely recognized as a source of quality data on the American steel industry, and we are delighted to have been selected as its distribution partner,” said Andrew Goodwin, general manager of Platts’ metals group. “Our two organizations share a common commitment to enhancing the value of AISI’s data and giving industry decision-makers greater insights into market dynamics. By offering advanced analytical tools and complimentary data from the government and other sources, Platts’ new interactive platform will enable the achievement of these two goals.”

AISI serves as the voice of the North American steel industry in the public policy arena and advances the case for steel in the marketplace as the preferred material of choice. AISI also plays a lead role in the development and application of new steels and steelmaking technology. AISI is comprised of 25 member companies, including integrated and electric furnace steelmakers, and 124 associate members who are suppliers to or customers of the steel industry. AISI's member companies represent over three quarters of both U.S. and North American steel capacity.
