SSAB Appoints New Executive Vice President & Head of Communications

26 August 2013 - SSAB has appointed Maria Långberg as its new executive vice president and head of communications and member of the Group Executive Committee from 1 October 2013. Helena Stålnert will leave the company to set up her own business, following the expiration of her current contract.

AISI: Preliminary U.S. Steel Imports Increase 1% in July

26 August 2013 - Based on preliminary Census Bureau data, the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported that the U.S. imported a total of 2,475,000 tons of steel in July, including 1,956,000 tons of finished steel (up 0.6% and 0.9%, respectively, vs. June final data).

June Steel Shipments Down 3% from May in U.S.

21 August 2013 - The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) reported that for the month of June 2013, U.S. steel mills shipped 7,806,319 tons, a 3% decrease from the 8,047,245 tons shipped in the previous month, May 2013, and a 2.6% decrease from the 8,016,834 tons shipped in June 2012.

Canada to Keep Import Duties on Standard Pipe from China

20 August 2013 - After an expiry review of antidumping and countervailing duties on imports of carbon steel welded pipe from China, the Canadian International Trade Tribunal determined the imports were likely to result in injury to the Canadian market; therefore the duties will be maintained.

Global Crude Steel Production Up 2.7% Year-on-Year in July

20 August 2013 - World crude steel production for the 64 countries reporting to the World Steel Association (worldsteel) was 132 million tonnes in July 2013, an increase of 2.7% compared to July 2012.

AISI Applauds ITC Imports Vote in OCTG Trade Case

20 August 2013 - The American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI) applauded the affirmative preliminary injury vote by the International Trade Commission, which allows the AD and CD investigations on OCTG from India, Philippines, Saudi Arabia, South Korea, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey, Ukraine and Vietnam to move forward.

19 August 2013 - United States Steel Corporation's Board of Directors elected president and chief operating officer Mario Longhi as a director, and announced that he will succeed Chairman John P. Surma as chief executive officer effective 1 September 2013. Surma will retain the position of executive chairman through 31 December 2013 when he will retire from the company and from the board of directors.
