Corus Increases Reversing Mill Plate Price

Posco to Strengthen its Global Education Program

07 June 2010 - Posco opened a Posco Family Global Mini MBA program in association with the University of Hawaii at the end of last year. In August, the Global Capability Building Workshop will be hosted for factory managers at Gwangyang and Pohang Steelworks. Posco also recently launched the Cross-cultural Negotiation Development Program at the university.

04 June 2010 - The 80/100-MN open-die forging press installed by SMS Meer was formally inaugurated in March at the Wetzlar Works of Buderus Edelstahl GmbH. The press can be operated with both 8000-tonne press force and in the slower upsetting cycle with 10,000-tonne press force.

ShanDong Fulun Orders High-Speed Wire Rod Mills from SMS Meer

03 June 2010 - ShanDong Fulun Iron & Steel Co. Ltd., of Laiwu City, China, has placed an order with SMS Meer for the supply of two high-speed wire rod mills, each achieving an annual capacity of 700,000 tonnes of wire rod.

ArcelorMittal Kryviy Rih, Siemens Begin Construction of CCM

03 June 2010 - ArcelorMittal, ArcelorMittal Kryviy Rih, and Siemens VAI jointly announced that construction of the first Continuous Casting Machine (CCM) at the ArcelorMittal Kryviy Rih has begun. Capacity of the new CCM will be over 1.2 million tonnes of steel per year; start-up is targeted for September 2011.

Gerdau S.A. Proposes to Acquire Minority Shares in Gerdau Ameristeel

03 June 2010 - Gerdau S.A. has delivered to the Board of Directors of Gerdau Ameristeel a proposal to acquire all shares of Gerdau Ameristeel Corp. that it does not already own for US$11.00 cash per share. The Board has unanimously determined that it would support a transaction at the price, subject to finalization of definitive documentation for the transaction.

LKAB Inaugurates Gruvberget Iron Ore Mine

02 June 2010 - Mining has commenced at Gruvberget in Svappavaara, Europe's largest iron ore project, after LKAB's president Lars-Eric Aaro and Kiruna's municipal commissioner Kenneth Stålnacke fired the first round to inaugurate LKAB's first new iron ore mine in 50 years.

Outokumpu Opens Service Center in Kunshan, China

02 June 2010 - Outokumpu has inaugurated a new service center in Kunshan, Jiangsu Province, China, that will support the Group's strategy of expanding operations in Asia. The Kunshan service center has an annual capacity of about 30,000 tonnes of stainless steel.

JSW Steel Acquires Coking Coal Mine in U.S.

01 June 2010 - JSW Steel Ltd. has completed the acquisition of certain coking coal mining concessions in the U.S., following Board approval in March. The mines, located in West Virginia, have total resources of 123 million tonnes.

Vale to Sell Minority Stakes of Oman Subsidiary

01 June 2010 - Vale S.A. has entered into an agreement with Oman Oil Co. S.A.O.C. (OOC) to sell 30% of Vale Oman Pelletizing Co. LLC, for US$125 million. OOC is a wholly owned company of the Government of the Sultanate of Oman.
