Evraz Launches Rail Mill Reconstruction at NKMK

05 April 2010 - Evraz Group S.A. has begun the rail mill reconstruction at NKMK, its Russian steel plant in Novokuznetsk, Siberia. Once reconstruction has been completed, which is anticipated in 2012, NKMK will be able to produce 25- and 100-meter high-speed rails.

Kobe Steel Receives Plant Order from Bahrain Steel Company

05 April 2010 - Kobe Steel, Ltd. has been awarded a contract to supply a MIDREX® Direct Reduction Plant with an annual capacity of 1.5 million tonnes to Bahrain's United Steel Co. Under the full turnkey project, Kobe Steel is responsible for the design, equipment supply, construction, and start-up of the facility, which will make direct reduced iron.

05 April 2010 - OMZ-Special Steels has manufactured a unique support roll billet from a 360-tonne ingot for Hyundai Steel (South Korea). The billet is more than 10 meters in length and 2 meters in diameter; the new steel grade features increased chrome concentration.

31 March 2010 - An audit recently took place at ArcelorMittal Kryviy Rih that confirmed compliance to the international standard BS EN ISO 9001:2008. Auditors also executed a sample collection of reinforcing bar and took part in tests of 460B\B500B and B500C grades to the requirements of British standards BS 4449 versions 1997 and 2005.

Korean Steelmakers Recycle Nearly 100% of Metal Slag

30 March 2010 - About 99.8% of metal slag was recycled by Korean steelmakers last year, according to a report by the Korea Iron & Steel Association. Of the 16.7 million tonnes of slag produced in 2009, 16.67 million tonnes was recycled, surpassing the 95% target set by the government.

Outokumpu to Reevaluate Ferrochrome Production Expansion

30 March 2010 - Outokumpu has decided to update the feasibility study on the investment to double the ferrochrome production capacity in Tornio, Finland, to 530,000 tonnes. A decision based on the study is expected to be made by the end of June 2010.
