Salzgitter Group Records Pre-Tax Profit in Q2 2010

19 August 2010 - In the second quarter of 2010, the Salzgitter Group generated an operating pre-tax profit of €18.6 million (Q2 2009 recorded a loss of €96.9 million), bringing the first half of 2010 to a close with an operating profit before tax of €21.2 million.

Posco ICT to Manage African Water, Sewage Systems

Siemens to Supply Handan with Electrical Equipment for BOF Converters

18 August 2010 - Siemens Ltd. China received an order from Handan Iron & Steel Group Co. Ltd. to supply automation and drive equipment for three new BOF converters in its Handan Steel Works. The project is scheduled for completion by year end.

Siemens to Supply Rourkela with RH Vacuum Degassing Plant

17 August 2010 - Siemens VAI Metals Technologies has received an order from SAIL to supply an RH vacuum degassing plant to the Rourkela Steel Works in the state of Orissa. The new plant, which will enable production of high-quality steel grades up to cold-rolled non-oriented types, is scheduled to come into operation by mid-2012.

Corus to Rebuild Blast Furnace in Wales

17 August 2010 - Corus plans to invest £185 million into the No. 4 Blast Furnace at Port Talbot steelworks. The furnace will undergo a rebuild, starting in July 2012, that will equip it with technology to improve its safety, environmental performance, and reliability.

Corus to Produce Wind Tower Components in Teesside

16 August 2010 - Corus plans to construct a new £31.5-million manufacturing plant in Teesside to produce steel foundation structures, called monopiles, used to secure offshore wind turbines to the seabed. Preliminary engineering work is under way at the Corus Redcar site.

Ural Stal Orders Vacuum Degassing Plant from Siemens VAI

16 August 2010 - Siemens VAI Metals Technologies has received an order from the Russian Metalloinvest Holding to supply a new vacuum degassing plant to the JSC Ural Stal Works. The new plant is designed as a twin station with a capacity of 120 tonnes.

ThyssenKrupp Reports Nine-Month, Q3 Results for 2009/10

16 August 2010 - ThyssenKrupp reported that order intake and sales increased quarter-by-quarter, and in the first nine months of 2009/2010 were up from the prior-year period. Order intake increased by 8% to €30.6 billion for the first nine months, and sales were 1% higher at €31.1 billion.

13 August 2010 - Tata Steel Limited reported 1,825 crores (US$ 393 million) profit after tax for the quarter ended June 30, 2010, an improvement of 4,034 crores (US$ 869 million) compared to a loss of 2,209 crores (US$ 476 million) in the company’s year-ago first quarter.

Corus to Upgrade Scottish Steelworks

12 August 2010 - Corus plans to invest £8 million at its Dalzell steel mill to help meet demand for heavy plate products. The company is also recruiting 60 workers at two plants following an upturn in orders.

CSN Reports Q2 2010 Results

12 August 2010 - Companhia Siderúrgica Nacional posted net income of R$894 million for the second quarter of 2010, an increase of 85%, or R$412 million, compared to Q1 2010. Net revenue totaled R$3.9 billion, up 22% compared to the first quarter, chiefly due to an 86% upturn in mining revenue. Steel revenue increased 8% in the same period.
