Ruukki Supplies Steel Products for Allure of the Seas

29 October 2010 - Ruukki delivered a total of 38,000 tonnes of steel products, such as plates and profiles, for the hull of the recently completed Allure of the Seas cruise ship, which was built at STX Europe's shipyard in Turku, Finland.

Nippon Steel Promotes Mozambique Coking Coal Development Project

28 October 2010 - Nippon Steel Corp. (NSC) and Nippon Steel Trading Co., Ltd. (NST) have reached an agreement whereby NSC will acquire a 23.3% economic interest in the Revuboe Project, of which NST currently holds a 33.3% interest. A bankable feasibility study will be conducted with the goal of launching full-scale development of the project.

Sumitomo Metals Invests in New Steel Plate Mill in Thailand

28 October 2010 - Sumitomo Metal Industries, Ltd. has decided to take part in the Canadoil Group’s steel plate mill business in Thailand by investing in the Group, which is currently constructing a new steel plate mill in the country, and by providing technical assistance to the mill scheduled to be operational in 2013.

Linde to Build Industrial-Scale Air Separation Units for TISCO

28 October 2010 - The Linde Group has been contracted to build two industrial-scale air separation units for Taiyuan Iron & Steel Co. Ltd. (TISCO) at its Taiyuan site in China. The project will be managed by the 50:50 gases joint venture set up by Linde and TISCO, BOC-TISCO Gases.

ThyssenKrupp Celebrates Arrival of First Brazil Slabs at Duisburg

28 October 2010 - ThyssenKrupp celebrates the arrival of its first shipment of steel slabs from the new ThyssenKrupp CSA Siderúrgica do Atlântico mill in Brazil. Once it reaches full production, the Brazil plant will ship three million tons of its capacity to the plant currently under construction in Alabama, while two million tons will be shipped to ThyssenKrupp Steel Europe’s plants in Germany.

27 October 2010 - Magnitogorsk Iron & Steel Works hired Hatch Engineering and Consulting in Russia to pre-project the development of Prioskolskoye iron ores field in such a way that minimizes land allotment costs, eliminates environmental risks, and optimizes MMK’s capital and operating costs.

Mechel to Reconstruct Bratsk Ferroalloy Plant

26 October 2010 - Mechel OAO announces that Bratsk Ferroalloy Plant OOO has signed contracts with Siberian Plant of Electrothermal Equipment (Sibelectrotherm) to purchase four ferroalloy electric furnaces. The reconstruction is planned for 2011-12.

Praxair Finalizes Agreement with United Steel in Bahrain

26 October 2010 - Praxair Gulf Industrial Gases LLC has finalized an agreement with United Steel Co. (SULB) B.S.C. to supply oxygen, nitrogen, and argon for use in its direct iron reduction plant and steel melt shop. The plant is due to start up during the fourth quarter of 2012.

Five managers from its joint venture partner Krakatau Steel recently visited Gwangyang Works to discuss the construction order format for the blast furnace and sintering equipment to be installed.

JFE Steel to Construct Continuous Galvanizing Line in Thailand

25 October 2010 - JFE Steel Corp. plans to construct Thailand’s first continuous galvanizing line for automobiles at the Hemaraj Eastern Seaboard Industrial Estate of Rayong Province in southeastern Thailand. Operation startup is planned for April 2013.

Evraz to Develop Eastern Coking Coal Field in Russia

22 October 2010 - Evraz Group S.A. has won the tender, held by the Russian State Mineral Resources Agency, to develop the Eastern field of the western part of the Ulug-Khemsky coking coal deposit in East Siberia. The license is expected to be received within two months.

World Crude Steel Production Slips 1% in September

22 October 2010 - World crude steel production for the 66 countries reporting to the World Steel Association stood at an estimated 111.75 million tonnes in September 2010 — a 1.0% decrease from the previous month (August 2010) and an 0.9% increase vs. September 2009.

Posco Launches Global e-Procurement System in Vietnam

MMK, Atakas Commission Cold-Rolling Facility

21 October 2010 - MMK and Atakas Group have commissioned a cold-rolling facility as part of the MMK-Atakas steel project being developed near Iskenderun. By the end of 2011, the commissioned cold-rolling shop is scheduled to reach its planned capacity of 750,000 tonnes-per-year of ready-made metal products.

Mechel Announces Nine-Month Operational Results
