Ruukki Supplies Steel Products for Allure of the Seas

Ruukki delivered a total of 38,000 tonnes of steel products, such as plates and profiles, for the hull of the recently completed Allure of the Seas cruise ship, which was built at STX Europe's shipyard in Turku, Finland.

Ruukki notes that the amount of steel it delivered accounts for around 70% of the steel used in the vessel. The company also delivered about 70% of the steel used in Oasis of the Seas, an identical sister ship. The vessels are 361 meters long, have capacity for 6360 passengers, and 2100 crew members.

The hull of the vessel was built one block at a time, and Ruukki delivered the plate material for each block to the customer as the plan progressed.

"Smooth deliveries and constantly paying attention to the customer's needs were ensured by relocating Ruukki's own project manager to the shipyard to oversee deliveries and project progress with the customer's representative," said Jouni Rättyä, Vice President at Ruukki.
