JFE Steel to Construct Continuous Galvanizing Line in Thailand

JFE Steel Corp. plans to construct Thailand’s first continuous galvanizing line for automobiles at the Hemaraj Eastern Seaboard Industrial Estate of Rayong Province in southeastern Thailand.

JFE Steel Galvanizing (Thailand) Ltd., JFE Steel’s wholly owned subsidiary, will handle construction and operation of the facility, as well as sales of hot-dip galvanized steel.

Production capacity will be 400,000 tonnes per year, with sheet thickness of 0.4 to 2.3 mm and sheet width of 800 to 1,880 mm. Operation startup is planned for April 2013.

The company notes that Thailand is a production and export base for many global automakers and that local demand for high-end automotive steel sheet is expected to grow as these automakers further expand capacity, including through the construction of new plants.

The new continuous galvanizing line will enable JFE Steel to respond to these increasingly sophisticated demands from automakers in Thailand.
