VAI to Modernize Posco Pickling and Oiling Line

01 July 2005 - Voest Alpine Industrieanlagenbau GmbH (VAI) received a contract from Posco, South Korea, to modernize a Pickling and Oiling Line in their Kwangyang works. The upgraded line will have an annual capacity of 800,000 tonnes of high quality sheet for direct sale in local and international markets.

01 July 2005 - ThyssenKrupp Acciai Speciali in Terni, Italy, has placed an order with SMS Demag AG, Germany, for the supply of a seventh 20-roll cold rolling mill for the manufacture of stainless steel strip.

Steelworkers Ratify Agreement with Samuel Manu-Tech

01 July 2005 - United Steelworkers' Ontario Atlantic Director Wayne Fraser announced Thursday that the 105 members of Local 8782 have ratified a new, three-year collective agreement with the Nelson Steel metal processing facility owned by Samuel Manu-Tech Inc.

30 June 2005 - Novamerican Steel Inc. announced net income of $8.7 million on sales of $218.0 million for the second quarter and net income of $18.8 million on sales of $424.3 million for the six months ended May 28, 2005.

Mittal Steel Announces Third Quarter Production Cutbacks

30 June 2005 - Mittal Steel Co. NV announced plans to reduce global production by one million tons in the third quarter of 2005. This follows similar reductions in the second quarter.

29 June 2005 - Lone Star Technologies, Inc. announced that its largest subsidiary, Lone Star Steel Co., and Tubos del Caribe, SA (Tubocaribe), Colombia, have terminated their strategic alliance, following a change of ownership of Tubocaribe. The exclusive agreement was due to expire in October 2006.

CITT Rescinds Hot Rolled Steel Plate Orders

28 June 2005 - The Canadian International Trade Tribunal (CITT) has rescinded its June 27, 2000, finding on dumped hot rolled carbon steel plate from Brazil, Finland, India, Indonesia, Thailand and Ukraine and subsidized hot rolled carbon plate from India, Indonesia and Thailand.

Wheeling-Pittsburgh Revises 2nd Quarter Expectations

28 June 2005 - Continued softness in the flat rolled carbon sheet market has prompted Wheeling-Pittsburgh Corp. to revise second quarter shipment expectations from 569,000 to 545,000 tons, and expected production from 654,000 to 600,000 tons.
