Maanshan Iron & Steel (Masteel), P.R. China, recently started operation of its new 500,000 tonne/year superflexible mill for the production of up to 400-mm H-beams (including ultra-light beams), I-beams and channels.
Supplied by Danieli, the medium section mill is made up of 15 SHS housingless stands in Horizontal or Universal arrangement with automatic quick program changing system. All universal stands can be quickly reassembled as 2-high stands, to adjust the mill to the roll-pass schedule.
Finishing facilities include the cooling bed, in-line straightening, cut-off saws, automatic stacking and strapping services. A Danieli Automation HiProfile® laser profile gauge, installed after the finishing stand, provides continuous on-line rolled stock measurement and monitoring.
This is the second Danieli H-beam mill to operate in China, following an installation at Hengshui Jinghua Steel Pipe in Shangdong, which started up early last year.
