Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Updates Third Quarter Outlook

03 October 2005 - Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp. announced that it expects operating income for the third quarter to be more than $20 million lower than previously expected. This is primarily due to greater than anticipated increases in scrap costs in the third quarter, as well as lower selling prices. Third quarter shipments are expected to be 550,000 tons (up 25,000 tons), and production is expected to be 570,000 tons (30,000 tons lower).

Wheeling-Pittsburgh and Severstal NA form Mountain State Carbon

03 October 2005 - Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp. and SNA Carbon, LLC announced the formation and funding of their new joint venture, Mountain State Carbon LLC. The new venture now owns Wheeling-Pittsburgh's coke plant in Follansbee, W.Va.

Mittal Steel USA to Restart Indiana Harbor Blast Furnace

03 October 2005 - Mittal Steel has elected to restart a blast furnace in its East Chicago, Ind., facility at about the time another is going down in Cleveland. The moves are part of the company's ongoing effort to balance its supply of steel with the demand for its products in the marketplace and maintenance needs for various ironmaking and steelmaking equipment.
