26 October 2011 - The U.S. imported a total of 2,238,000 net tons of steel in September, down 9% from August final data according to the latest report from AISI. Finished steel imports were also down 9% through the same period.

26 October 2011 - United States Steel Corp. reported third quarter 2011 net income of $22 million, or $0.15 per diluted share, compared to a second quarter 2011 net income of $222 million, or $1.33 per diluted share, and a Q3 2010 net loss of $51 million, or $0.35 per diluted share.

Stainless Imports up 39% through YTD July 2011

25 October 2011 - Total stainless imports reached 488,826 tons through YTD July 2011, a 38.6% increase compared to YTD July 2010 according to the latest report from SSINA. Total specialty steel imports (comprising stainless steel, alloy tool steel and electrical steel) reached 615,409 tons through the same period, a 37.2% increase.

September World Crude Steel Production Dips Slightly vs. August

24 October 2011 - World crude steel production for the 64 countries reporting to the World Steel Association stood at an estimated 123.57 million tonnes for September 2011, 0.8% lower than the 124.59 million tonnes reported for the previous month (August 2011) and 9.7% higher in comparison with September 2010.
