Olympic Steel Reports 4th Quarter, Annual Financial Results

24 February 2012 - Olympic Steel, Inc. reported that net sales for the fourth quarter of 2011 totaled $319.9 million, its highest ever for a fourth quarter. Net sales for the year totaled $1.26 billion, a record annual revenue total and an increase of 56.7% from $805 million in 2010.

Finished Steel Imports Climb 31% in January

23 February 2012 - The U.S. imported a total of 2,546,000 net tons of steel in January, up 23% from December final data, according to the latest report from AISI. Finished steel imports were up 31% over the same period.

January World Crude Steel Production Down 7.8% vs. January 2011

22 February 2012 - World crude steel production for the 59 countries reporting to the World Steel Association stood at 116.7 million tonnes for January 2012, 7.8% lower in comparison with January 2011 and 0.3% lower than the previous month, December 2011.

Stainless Imports up 22% Through YTD November 2011

20 February 2012 - Total stainless imports reached 728,648 tons through YTD November 2011, a 21.8% increase compared to YTD November 2010 according to the latest report from SSINA. Total specialty steel imports (comprising stainless steel, alloy tool steel and electrical steel) reached 937,322 tons through the same period, a 22.8% increase.

December ’11 Steel Shipments Up 9.2% from November

20 February 2012 - U.S. steel mills shipped 8,085,761 net tons for the month of December 2011, a 9.2% increase from the 7,404,828 net tons shipped in the previous month according to the latest release from AISI.
